expgpr,
the ultra can not be running fine if it was tuned in arizona then brought to canada with a 2400 ft elevation. the jetting will be way off..........harry could not have setup the ultra for 2400 ft elevation , it would have been lean enough to detonate if that jetting was in the carbs .someone had to have retuned the ultra when it returned home,if not, it needs to be done !!!!!!!!!!

Dana, read the 24th word of EXPGPR post . . . "re-tuned". He said the Ultra was re-tuned for their altitude.

Dana, they obviously knew where this ultra was intended to be run and as Carl said, if it wasn't up to snuff why would they race???

It has been re-tuned for our altitude but unless we put some form of compressor under the seat it's going to be 3mph slower here then at sea level. We lose 3mph on the GPR's also. But on the flip side the XL's will gain 3mph when we take them to Arizona. Bottom line is I think the XL's will beat a 70mph Ultra here there or anywhere.
I hope you now understand this is not a tuning issue. If you think it is, Bill is into this Ultra so deep he would probably pay for you to fly up here to retune it for him all expenses paid. On condition you can tune enough speed into his Ultra to prevent him from turning into a Island XL sandwich when Terry and I run him this weekend.

Don

Don, it's NOT a tuning issue, the issue is, YOU MENTIONED ISLAND ON YOUR POST, if the ISLAND RACING name had not been mentioned, Dana would not have touched this thread, just ignore those pestering flyes. [Roll Eyes]

And I thought this was supoosed to be another bash Group K thread. Back in 2000 there wasn't a lot of aftermarket parts available for the XLL/GPR. Group K was one of the first to provide modded parts for the XLL, even before Riva. I had a lot of success with Group K and their products did exactly what they advertised. I have found that Group K is very conservative with their mods and other aftermarket parts will produce better top speeds. I used to have a 2000 XLL and even though I saw 62-63 mph on my GPS, I was never able to beat an Ultra. You should put a small Utra decal on the side of your ski every time you beat one.

Dayna
I don't understand why you think the Ulta is out of tune. By Group K's own claim this boat should run 69 70 MPH @ Sea Level, and it does all of that. So by your calculations how fast should it run at 2500' ASL? I thought you had a sledding background and understood the effects of altitude on horsepower. If you are lost let me know and I will try to re-explain it in a more simpistic format.
