If you are going to use it for CC racing I would recommend contacting James Crone/Performance Engineering about building a turn-key race ski for your class/budget. His STXRs are clearly outperform the others I have seen at the Region 5 CC races.

Others may disagree - but the only "must do" mod on the STX-R is swap the steering for a UMI system. Your forearms will love you for it. Make it the first mod you do. If you don't have the money up front - save it until you do. Don't nickel and dime other mods effectively putting this one off.
There are a lot of mods to be done, and all have an impact on performance, but reality is the STX-R is the most race ready ski you can buy without putting more money into it. Although the sponsons are not the best - they are adequate. The stock grate and ride plate are as good as aftermarket, and the stock impeller isn't bad either.
BTW - I've done all the afore mentioned mods to my STX-R and, as usual, the UMI is the best bang for the buck.

Guys, I've seen 2002 STXR's for $7300 new and $6999 for a demo with 2 hours on it and $7600 for a 2003. Also saw a 2002 stxr on ebay (new) with the reserve set at $7300.

Actually I think the three-seater STX-R Kawasakis Queen Mary model is a joke racing in a class that has 8 foot XPs running in it. Obviously the IJSBA has been hurting for money over the past few years and will allow anything now days? Ijsba classes have always had motor cc caps now 800cc or 1200cc although how one boat can be almost 3 feet longer that another in the same class is a big question to me? But still I do remember back in 1993 when the IJSBA allowed the Blaster to race in the same class as the X2, boy were there a lot of broken X2 legs over that one. All do to one fact, he who has the bigger boat in tight close course racing bashes harder, so when will the four-seaters start racing in the 1200cc class? And by the way Jarrett who in the hel! is James Crone obviously a Kawasaki guy from Texas, how did he do at the world finals racing the last couple of years?
