I recently installed the Riva Stage II kit on my '04 GP1300R and noticed that after idling through quite a few "NO WAKE" zones the motor loads up pretty badly. It's set to Riva's recommendations, I was just wondering if anyone has anymore experience with them and if there are any better settings to correct the problem?
Thanks.

That is a problem common with any 2-stroke pwc; injected or normally aspirated. It's a combination of engine and exhaust loading up. To prevent this from happening you should blip the throttle from time to time while cruising along. Don't take off like a maniac or you can bet you'll get everyone's attention. You only need to bring the RPM up enough to clear the engine and waterbox out.

Not sure what you mean by that. Confused But since you posted it you might as well expand on it since you took the time and space to post it....

You could also turn your first screw down a little until it stops loading up.

Its all part of tuning.. keep an eye on the plugs, Riva/R&D's directions were both different for the same controller, but i started at Riva's settings, took it out on the water, and mounted the actual controller in my glove box, for easy adjusting.. Ive found for best results keep an eye on the yellow adjustment needle, run it at 3700-4500rpms, then get off of it.. idle for 1 minute then punch it and see if its "loaded up" basically its a 2-stroke thing (had this problem with my banshee for a while),

If you want to try a more mechanical route, you could get a TDR Water box, which allows more ex-gasing of the exhaust, which prevents loading up.

Ok, I'll give it a shot. I figure they can't all be adjusted the exact same way from one ski to another, but what settings are you guys running and what should I look for while tuning? It feels to me that the ski is probably running a little too rich. A buddy and I were out in the intercoastal racing in about 2ft chop, and for some reason, I couldn't catch him. Now, normally that wouldn't bother me so much but I had just invested in the entire Riva Stage II kit bringing my grand total including the ski to just under 11 grand. He had just bought a '99 stock Ultra 150 and spent $3900.00 delivered. Does that sound right to anyone? I sure felt stupid after the numerous races that we had.

thought the answer was weak.....a properly tuned motor should not have any stumbling or loading up issues. To compensate by blipping the gas is not the remedy in my opinion. I'm not bashing anyone but just felt the reply was a little under par for you guys. My question to youguys is has anyone tried the above mods with no efi controller and what were the results?? My understanding is the skiis come from factory on the rich side anyhow. Is the motor that radical now that it is needed?? Still single pipe and only mild increase in compression....is it reallly needed. Thanks for your time

Understood. Nor am I.

I have yet to see any one 2-stroke equipped pwc that doesn't load up under these conditions. If you or any of our other forums members know of another remedy that is better please post it. Thanks! Big Grin
