Hey guys, my new FX SHO will arrive in Cayman in a week or less. I'm assuming it will be devoid of fluids including engine oil. Which synthetic oils do you recommend? Is there anything else I need to do to my craft before its ready for launch? In the past all my waverunners have been prepped by the Yamaha dealership here in Cayman. Cool

Personally I would not use a synthetic oil in any new IC engine until it's well run in, as the rings may not seat properly.
My SHO is on Yamalube from the dealer at the moment, had a change with filter at 10 hours, and is due in another 10 hours for the 50 hour service.
I may as yet do it myself for the 50 hour, and could use synthetic, but I feel after talking to a Castrol guru I shall use what I use and have used in my cars of all types----CASTROL MAGNATEC, that more than exceeds the required specs for the SHO engine.
MAGNATEC is a semi synthetic anyway and is without doubt a very good oil.

I believe the main thing is to use an oil that is to or higher than the specs in your books that comes with the ski.
Any well known brand should suffice.
Perhaps your Yamaha dealer may have the Yamalube?

caymansho - I forwarded your e-mail address to our PDI department. They will be in touch with you regarding the proper prepping procedure for your SHO.

Yep, it's good-----real good.
Handles well and has lots of grunt.
Just on 40 hours and no mechanical issues.
It does 67.3mph/108.3kph on GPS. It's stock.
My only gripe is that the inside of the seat has scratched the paintwork where it touches it.
I reported to to Yamaha Australia direct with pics, and also my dealer took pics to send them off as well-----as yet no reply.
I saw my friend today and her's bought last month has 10 hours up and has started to get marked also.
I really don't think it's good enough, so I have placed heavy duty vynal self adhesive tape on mine to 'ease the pain', where it touches and shall do hers next week.
Are we the only ones, or do they all do it?

Thx for heads up on the scratching. I'll add tape to my list of things to get before mine gets here, hopefully mon or tues. I went ahead and had RIVA put the RPM Kit on mine (minus ride plate of course), will let ya know how she runs. Cool Took next week off to break in my SHO so she better get down here, haha. Big Grin

You're not alone. It happened to the display unit I built for the dealer meeting. Bad Nod

FWIW it's the seat material it's self that's scratching the paintwork.
I thought at first it was the staples holding the material on.
The seat material on the Cruiser (Mine's a red one with gold seat) is without doubt very tough, as it needs to be being out in the elements, but where it bunches up is where it rubs and scratches.

Had a thought. Is this seat scratching problem with the Cruiser seats only or the Sport style as well?

My display unit was a standard. It happened with the stock seat cover and our aftermarket seat cover.
