While pulling the PVs out of my GPR to clean them, I actually broke the head off one! These were the upgraded -03 valves, with about 70 hours on them, were verrry carboned up, even tho I use Amsoil 100% synthetic injector oil. Have them all out, everything is fine, but wondered about replacing them with the R&D valves ...

Anybody have any experience with the R&D valves?

Also, anybody pull their valves after 100 hours and have no carbon buildup? If so, what oil were you using?

Be careful of which R&D valves you get. Their early model is made of soft metal and the stops wear away causing the valve to touch the piston. This happened to me when I put them on my XL. They blamed it on my pulley's being too tight but further research on the matter in the past year (and talking to a few people who had them installed) led me (and others)to the conclusion that the R&D valves were the reason my engine was destroyed. I will not use them again.
Keep the stockers and use the waveeater clips.

PS> I can't name names but some of the people who agreed with me on this were very influential people on this board. I can't release those names unfort. Please don't ask me but I wouldn't say this if I didn't believe it to be true

I bought some R&D valves when they first came out. No problems.

I called R&D today and asked them about powervalve materials. I told them my engine is fine and was concerned about possibly having suspect powervalves in my ski. They told me the valves and components have always been the same.

I have 40 hours on my R&D valves.

The cables are and have always been adjusted properly.

Hi Spud..

I don't want to start a flame war here but be very carefull with those R&D valves. They look pretty but they are not as durable as the latest (not older) edition of the stock valves. There is one person here who can help clarify this and I hope he speaks out. THanks...and good luck.

HEY GUYS. WHEN THIS WHOLE POWER VALVE PROBLEM
BEGAN, I BOUGHT NEW OEM POWER VALVES FROM RIVA.
I BELIEVE 02 TYPE, THE SLEEVE OVER THE SHAFT IS SLIGHTY LONGER THAN THE ORIGINAL POWER VALVES. SO IT DOES PREVENT THE VALVE FROM GOING IN ANY FURTHER. CAN I LEAVE THEM ALONE? OR DO I NEED THIS NEW CLIP?

As long as you don't have the copper colored sleeves and you use waveeater clips with locktite red, you should be A-okay.

R&D makes a lot of good products but I had a bad experience with their first edition valves (bought 11/2001). I wasn't the only one who had this problem. They improved their valve line since then but I don't think they are any better than the stock ones already on the 02 and newer ski's. The waveeater clips are great insurance.
