I just purchased a 2000 XL1200LTD. It has 39hrs. It will only top out at 53 (dissapointing, I have a 95 701 waveraider deluxe that does 56). I also get the warning light, it flashes EXHST and beeps loudly if I run at 53 for long. Of course it also gave the warning after a few tricks and only going around 43ish. After checking these message boards it would appear it's my cat-con. My question is I guess, should I take it to a dealer or mechanic that can tell me exactly what it is....or should I start replacing the cat-con with a D-plate and get a new FF exhaust?
Any info would help....I'm used to my waveraider, which in my eyes is the best ski ever....lol. help.... ![]() |

Jetskigirl, You are probably right about it being the cat-con. Go ahead and get the D-plate, even if its not the problem it will be sooner or later. Robert

As for your other concerns about speed, you should consider a new impeller and intake grate. I have a 99 XLT and am amazed at the difference it made. I also added the Riva Ride Plate. Now I run 60 or better, easily beating stock 2 seaters.

i have the same machine and you are right, the cat has broke free. dont worry about the gasket cause it can be reused. and as far as top speed , the speedos are now where accurate. radar is the only truth, but you will feel it come alive when the d-plate goes in... good luck
