I have an '01 GP1200R that kinda fits the Stage II category but I'm running stock carbs and stock reeds. With the D-plate I'm running on configuration #2 with an R&D CDI. Some instructions said run config. #1 with stock exhaust and #2 with a stinger. Newer instructions from various sources said run config. #2 with a D-plate. I was running it on config. #1 until now. I also added wave-eater clips and couplers. And I changed over to Amsoil's Dominater injection oil. These were the only three upgrades since adding all the Stage I and II stuff.
It only has about 22 hours on it but it's been garage kept and heavily maintained. We put in Saturday and it ran great with no problem indications. My cousin had a side race and bet set up with one of his coworker's RXP and we won pretty convincingly. But on the way back to the landing it slowed quickly and shut down. I tried to crank it but the starter wouldn't turn it over. After about a minute the starter struggled a bit but cranked it fine. It didn't have much power though. It struggled to reach 30 mph on the speedometer. It skipped and sputtered a bit so I figured trash in the carbs or lines. It shut down again. I had to wait another minute before the starter would turn it again and it ran weak, sputtered, and still had little power. I changed the plugs and the third (rear) plug's probe was bent down onto the electrode. After I changed them it cranked, ran with little power but this time I felt a thump in the engine compartment and it shut down again. I pulled the seat and there was metal all in the hull. The starter only bumped. So we drug it back. Using a mirror, I can see a crack and dime size hole in what looks like the rear, lower portion of the crankcase below the same cylinder that had the bent plug. I'm about to start turning wrenches tomorrow but I need all the suggestions and help I can get determining the cause(s). I'm wondering alot. I measured and checked the valves before ordering and installing the wave-eater clips and they all measured to spec. I installed the couplers and clips but didn't think I had to adjust the valves afterwards. The instructions didn't say so. So I unclipped the OEMs and reclipped the wave-eaters. I have the Cat temp sensor not the OEM. I read tonight it's only required on OEM CDIs. Is it possible with the R&D CDI that the Cat temp sensor didn't notify of an overheating problem? Did running the CDI on config. #2 (16 degrees) become the wrong option of running it on #1 (14 degrees). I have my doubts about that one because of how much stronger it ran with no problems. Could a carb or fuel line have been clogged and if so could that really cause this kind of fatal damage to the engine? I'm just guessing and wondering now before I tear it apart but these are a few things I'm not too sure about. I'm also wondering about the oil injection system but the plugs were wet although that may not mean much. I'm leaning alot towards a rod bearing failing but I wanna know all the failure contributing possibilities I can before I go back in with the new stuff whatever that may be. I'm open for suggestions on that too. It read 75 on the OEM speedometer with a full tank Saturday and it was about all the Savannah River could hold....me too. If I'm going back in I may as well go back with more but I'd be satisfied with the power I got. I was running pump, 93 octane. I'm not sure what the RPMs were reading because I still have the OEM gauge. I do know once the waterbox cleared all the stock RXP saw was hope. I don't wanna buy a new ski or change brands or anything like that. I've ridden others but for the moderate upgrades and weekend river riding nothing gets up like a two stroke GPR. |

ouch
sounds like a rod went through the cases you need to tear it apart and try and figure out what failed 1st (the crank could have failed first or something else could have failed leading to metal in the cases which then caused the crank to fail) if you post pictures of the head, piston, PVs etc maybe someone can help determine what the cause was GP1300R Stage II - Step by step instructions http://rivaforums.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=6446095904&f=4...571066093#2571066093 GP1530R Stage II Big Bore - Step by step instructions http://rivaforums.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4886094314/m/2481074825 Hydrotoys - all sorts of stuff! http://www.hydrotoys.com/gpr/ CajanDude - GP1200R Manual & Info http://www.cajundude.com/jetskihome.htm My Ebay Store – Used (good) stuff for sale: http://stores.ebay.com/Yamaha-GPR/?refid=store |
