I took the GP1200 to the river yesterday and got the best numbers off of it I have ever seen. I got 63.6 in Lake Ferguson low on fuel and 90's for temps. Thats a solid 1 mph better than it has ever done. I wanted to double check the speed coat that I had applied to my GPR rideplate and see if there is anything there since I change 3 or 4 things at a time. The things that are different on the GP since the last ride are 1 washer between plate and hull rear bolts vs. 2, (its Riva Performance plate and I have previously run 1 washer) and speed coat on the plate. I really think there is something to the speed coat. The ski ran 62.5 with a full tank in the morning and 63.6 when the fuel was low. The best that ski has ever done is mid 62's and I have run with one washer before. I don't know that the speed coat is good for over 1 mph but it is good for at least 1/2 mph. At the end of my river trip the speed coat was still intact. I think it would probably last 3 to 4 weekends.

I sanded the plate and wiped it with alcohol prior to spraying, for good adhesion. The name of the speed coat is Lubri-Bond "A". I think it cost me about $20.00. I think Fercho mentioned this last spring on the message board. You can buy it at Rex Marine, its on the web.

I did not apply any to the hull. Only the rideplate. The ski handled fine no squirliness. The GPR handled fine at 72 and in rough water. I have since applied some to my trim tabs on the GPR. I haven't tested that yet.

I used it on my GPR when I angled the plate. The speed of the GPR was 72.2 afterwards. 70.5 was a previous best with the nonangled plate and no speed coat.

I just want to pass this along since I think there is some cheap speed there.

I haven't got the huevos to try the hood scoop on the GPR yet. I am not afraid of the scoop coming off, but I am afraid of a lean seize and I really dont want to go there until I am employed again.

Well that is my speed tip for today. If any of you come up with something cool let me know. I'd appreciate it.

Jim

Yes it is slick. It will turn your hands gray right after painting even though it is dry. It cures so fast some of the overspray doesn't wet into the surface. After a good ride it won't turn them gray anymore. I sanded the plate just enough to break the shine, or clean up the surface prior to application.

Give it a try. I think there is something there. The drag boats use it. The guy at Rex Marine can go into more detail.

I think its more than coincidence that my skis both ran faster. I don't get to ride as much as a lot of folks and to get real testing conditions I need to drive 230 miles. So there are a lot of small variables.

I hope it gets you that 1/2 mph or more WoodMan.
