I'm going to install a new Pro-Tec intake grate on my '99 GP. Does it matter what kind of silicone sealant I use? Thanks.

Buck-

Most people on here will tell you to use 3M 5200. I disagree, and will suggest 4200. Everyone I've spoken to says the 4200 will serve the same exact purpose, but still be reasonably easy to remove after it is cured. Read the tube of 5200, and it says its for permanent installations only. There are a number of posts on this forum where people who've used the 5200 are having tremendous problems removing items sealed with the 5200, and trying to remove the 5200 from the surfaces of their ski. The 4200 on my ski has been fine.

5200 fsat cure is the way to go. There is an incredible amount of water pressure passing thru the pump. The adhesion of the pump shoe to the hull using 5200 will relieve some pressure from the brass hull inserts

Disassembly without problems is a matter of personal ability.

I've gotten to where I don't use anything on the intake grate because it gets removed so often. 5200 fast cure on the pump shoe works well though. I have also used the right stuff - but found it much harder to clean up / remove later. 5200 seems to form as a rubber gasket and pulls right off in mostly one peice. The key to all of it too make sure you give enough time to cure.

I believe RIVA recommends the 4200. I know some guys that build some sweet Doo's that are personal friends of mine use Blue or Black RTV Silicone if I remember correctly.

I suggest 4200. If you do use 5200, you can remove it with Anti-Bond 2015.
