I Have a 2000 Gpr Triple pipe boat that porpoises really bad above 45 mph. Please help. Thanks

FIRST: Buy a Ride Plate and extended trim tabs.
SECOND: If you want a little something extra purchase a Top Loader intake grate, this will keep you sucked down to the water at speed. THIRD: If you still have money left over, buy the Riva sponsons, adjust all the way down. These puppies will keep you tracking straight-a-way while you crush the opposition. Oh ho, hear comes a swell, Hooooooooaaaaa! See ya!! |

I have that problem too
I have and did what you said gilbert and still porpoising abit. the funny thing is it wasnt like that before. I put the sponsons all the way up and its crazy, then when I put it back all the way down it never the same as before again ![]() |

i already have all of that stuff. Thanks though. What else. Are these modified ride plates worth anything as far as stability or for just speed. I am haooy with my speed 74.6 @7680 w/ 13/19 washer removed. Just terrible porpoising above about 45 mph even on calm water. It can go away with perfect rider positioning but its hard to eliminate. HELP?

Two washers on each side under the rear bolts of the ride plate. An 3 degree nozzle will also help

quote:Street...........had the same problem with mine at Riva's test lake. There are two kinds of porpoising I learned. The kind that starts from too much nose lift and the kind that comes from too much rear lift. Washers in the rear help sometimes but if the porpoising is coming from too much rear lift........washers will only exagerate the problem. We had to go back in and re-align the plate and grate to eliminate the "rear lift" problem. My guess is that if you have tried the washers and it still is an issue...........your plate and grate need to be carefully looked at and re-aligned. Just passin' on what I learned at Riva's Lake X. ![]() |

Shimming the ride plate is going to help you a lot. But you must use a straight edge at least 3' long. Check that the two side surfaces of the plate are parallel with the hull. The bottom flat of the plate has so much lift that if you make it parallel with the hull, the side flats will actuall be kickled down causing the rear lift problem. A 3' nozzle will also help a lot. I assume you already have performance sponsons. Just leave them alone. If you want more stability than shimming the plate and changing the nozzle give, don't forget to try putting a washer between each of the four bolts holding the trim tabs in place and the hull. A LITTLE DOES A LOT THERE!! This fix should be tested in the rough to ensure it does not cause the boat to dive forward when launching off of bigger waves! BTW, A quick fix can also be had simply by puttign back on the stock plate!

I am very happy with the 3 deg nozzel I put on my GPR. Noticably less porousing, and noticeably faster in 1-2ft chop.
Cheap easy mod, you should be able to find one used for around $40. |

Yeah, unless you ride on glass, take that riva ride plate off and go with the stock plate.

Street,
Go with the 3deg nozzle. Leave everything else alone. You may loose a mile per hour (or not), but you will forget-a-bout-it soon. The triple machine will love being hooked up, and your crankshaft will live longer. The ski seems like a new beast with the 3deg. Verify that your pump shoe is recessed into the cavity. If any of it is hanging below the level of the hull, you will see some bouncing as well. Use a small straight edge. Verify both sides are equally recessed. Do not pull your inserts thru the hull by over tightening! |

in addition to the 3 degree
- the R&D trim tabs will help a bit - riva sponsons all the way down or stock sponsons stepped |

If you have money to burn, get yourself some mechanical trim tabs... Fercho has posted very positive results with his.

I agree with the use of Mech trim tabs. Picked a set up from Fercho w/o the plate. It would be nice if R&D or Riva would sell them w/o the plate, they would sell more. Thanks again Fercho, they are worth every dollar.

I can get them without the plate!!!!!!!!

Guys,hi. New to the forum. Recently purchased a pre-owned 2001 GP1200R (from Riva) with a Riva handling kit installed (impeller, intake grate, ride plate, extended trim tabs). Have the same porpoising problems. Can quiet it down by setting trim all the way down (nose down). Would this be indicative of too much rear lift and would shimming the ride plate be the way to go? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Mech. Trim Tabs are the way to go.
Fercho, he know!!! |

Fercho, can you still get the bracket from R&D to fix the nozzle? If so, I need 1.
