My buddy just took his brand new STXR to L&M marine in Baytown off of Bayway drive to have some gouges in the gel coat repaired from hitting some under water rocks. They did the work in a couple of days at a reasonable price.....

Just out of curiosity, why do people keep riding at Banana Bend? I've heard nothing but horror stories about pipes, stumps, logs, and whatever else sticking up in the middle of the river. Now this.

Is the riding really that good to keep going back? Oh yea, is it the nude beach that nobody goes to?

My buddy went there a couple of weeks ago with some of the Houston guys. I couldn't go since I am out of commission for a couple of months. According to him, it sucks a$$ and he won't be back just because of all the hazards. I'll take his word.

Good luck to all of the riders who do go there.

Got your pictures ... repair like that can cost some money. I cracked the LR corner from jumping waves. I removed all the dock guard and load area hydrotuff matt, had him repair the crack, mask off the top decales, and paint the top area. He did a nice job for $500 and all new rub guards were about $150.

The problem is, you have to do that on the top and bottom. And the repair looks like it'll cost more. You could be looking at $1200-1500 by the time it's all done.

They sell good, used hull on the forum for about $2000. You might consider that instead of the repair.

I've been riding there every year since 1998, without issue.....it gets pretty busy at times, you need to know where you are going. Troy's girlfreind apparently got to close to a pier, those aren't only at Bananna bend, but other places as well. There are no stumps in the middle of the river, the ones that are there are marked and on the sides.....there is alot of white sandy beaches were you can park and relax, lot's of hot babes if you are a single guy......that's where I met my wife BTW....if you want some open riding you can venture down to the ship channel and out into the bay....just offers alot of variety for whatever you like.....I also know at least 10 people there everytime I go, so that is a plus for me....I can go on, but I'm sure you get the picture......whatever you heard is only one point of view......it's a fun place to go...... [Smile]

Troy,

My friend saw this post and told me that the GPR is made completely of SMC (I didn't know). When I took my Ultra over to L&M to have the top part repaired (the bottom is FG), they told me they don't do paint work, which is required for SMC repairs......this was 2 years ago, maybe they do now....just don't want to mislead you....

Troy,

Might try calling Andy at A W & Sons in Houston (713-957-3127)and asking who did the paint and repair on his race boat . . very nice work and I'm sure he'd appreciate being able to refer you to his sponsor.

Quin-

I went there two weeks ago with Coop (the day before his accident), and let me tell you, the place is one big hazard. Maybe the water was low when I went there, but there are cement blocks, rebar, iron pipes, and logs sticking out of the water, right in the middle of the freaking river! I was dodging this stuff all day, and vowed never to go back. Maybe Coop took me into areas that you guys avoid, but these hazards are there nonetheless. For anyone going there for the first time, I suggest keeping your eyes peeled!

Quin-

I can't look at the map and tell you. But we put in the water, took a right, and rode for some time. I remember seeing an unused drilling rig, and pipes running from the shore going out into the water in the areas where we were. It was really bad.

Maybe Coop just accidentally brought me to some really bad areas. I'd be interested in checking out the good areas you're talking about.

David,

I'm not saying the place is perfect, but I do wonder where you guys went? If you went North (which would be right from Bananna Bend) then unless you went past the train bridge and farther up north I don't know...it goes about3 miles past the train bridge which is at Love's marina and runs into the Lake Houston Dam, but I never go past there because it's like a 15 minute no wake zone in front of Magnolia Garden.....so there might be some crud up that way....there are your occasional stumps on the sides from time to time...and once you get out in the open parts you need to stay close to the channel markers.....the day coop,Fercho, Jay, and Juan came down there they got off course a couple of times and got me a bit worried, you do need to know the waters...but all was okay, we had a great time..

I do agree though, there are much better places for pure jetski riding, but I like the place more so because that's were all my friends go, and I can get away from all the traffic by going south.....

Maybe we can hook up one weekend and you give it another chance, I definetely want to make it to one of the rides you guys set up, best day for me is a Saturday since the wife works every other...my back is better now, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can make it! [Big Grin]

Take Care bro.....
