Had both my skis out today and this is what I came to realize.
The GP1200 is MUCH faster holeshot. The GP1300r is a very boring ski to say the least, where as the 1200 is exciting, turns on a dime, and has me smiling the whole time. We put my lightly modded GP1200 against my 3 hour stock gp1300r 8 times. I rode each one 4 times and my girlfriend rode each one 4 times. No matter who was riding on the 1200, the 1200 would COMPLETELY destroy the 1300 hole shot. My 1200 has a top speed of 62 and it would take literally about 1 minute for the 1300 to make up the ground and just barely creep by. I hope when I get this thing to Carl it is going to wake up for me. Even if my 1200 was stock it would still be giving this 1300 a spanking, what is holding this ski back? This 1200 is the same ski that would run neck and neck with my old GP800, with just an impeller to high 50's and then leave it, so its not just some fluke. I put a post on my 1300 the first day I had it out with positive feedback, but once I saw it up against something else I am a little dissapointed. 1 more thing, I let this guy take both of them out for a ride, he has only ridden rentals, and even he was saying the 1200 is the ski he would rather have. Hope you get my parts in soon Carl, I am dying to get this thing going faster. |

After thinking for a few minutes about this I guess that my 1300 should come to life a little bit more once I put some more hours on it. Question? Did you guys change your plugs after the intial break in with the extra oil? Just trying to figure out why this ski isnt tearing it up like I thought it would. Mike

i dont think my 1300R is that slow out of the hole big improvement over 1200R, i beat both of my friends mildy modified 1200s out of hole and destryoed till top speed

How about the Gas. I heard the 1300 drinks gas compared to the 1200

You are comparing an apple to an orange.

quote:Really. No it seems I am comparing a GP1200 to a GP1300r. Come up here and get on my 1300r and I think you will agree something is not right here. Also, since when does a GP1200 on 1/2 chop conditions smoke a 1300r and beats it up to a mile? I dont think so, so dont give me a reply like I am stupid or something because I am not. |

NJGP1200
I also used to ride a 98 GP1200 with almost the same exact mods as you have. When you compare the modified GP1200 to a stock GPR the GP will win just about every time. Put that same level of modification into your GPR and you will be selling that tired old GP quick. |

Yeah, I know, I have had 5 of them this is my 6th. A stock GP1200 or a stock GP800 will take this 1300r for awhile until it finally catches up a good distance later.

Can some1 please tell me what spark plugs you are using in your 1300r. The manual says BR8ES-11 BUT their website says BR8HS-11
Here is what it says on the specs page BR8HS-11 Yamahas main website & Rivas Spec page BR8HS-11 I know what it says on the head. Please tell me what you guys have in yours, and if anything could have happen to my ski during this breakin if I have had the wrong plugs. I have 3 hours. |

If you cannot figure out what plug your boat takes based on your own analyses then me driving up to NJ and teaching you and your girl friend how to ride is least of your problems. There are obvious differences between the boats expecting them to perform identically states that you dont see the obvious. So you and your girlfriend keep racing and enjoy your selves. Each boat has its place and will out perform the other in a verity of conditions.

AUSTIN... Dont get on me with your wise talk. You think I have nothing better to do then to complain about my ski? I say what my eyes and ears tell me.
It seems Yamaha doesnt even know what plug to use, so you should be a wise guy with them to. As far as you coming up here in teaching me how to ride, your bugging. First off I ride 12 months out of the year for the past 9 years, I might not be an advanced or expert mechanic, but I sure know how to ride, and most definetely better than you. Also, who lives on the Ocean?? Right, I do, and I push my ski 20 yards into the ocean whenever I want to ride, which is about 2 times a week for 9 years. You telling me that you are going to come up here and teach my girlfriend and I how to ride, is like you telling some guy in the mountains of Colorado that you are going to teach him how to ski down the slopes!! Let me guess... Your a racer, big whoop if you are!!As far as me not knowing the differences of these 2 boats as you say. How about this..... To any1 out there thinking about buying a new 1300r.... Dont!!! Just buy a 991200 for $4500 with 12 hours, like I did.... Then put $1500 into it like I did..... Then you will be completely spanking the new 1300r on any lake and bay for the fraction of the price..... Get this people, you dont have to worry about a powervalve failure or a busted cat conv... Act now, and see why the older GP is much funner. You can go 60 mph. then stop on a dime, or just go into 360 spins, the choice is yours. Try doing that on a 1300r ![]() |

what spark plugs came in your boat and what came in your tool kit?
I thought the E in the spark plug code indicated "extended length" which was required for the GP1200R. |

I am njgp1200's girlfriend. We are just trying to find out what spark plugs your new 1300r WaveRunners have come equipped with. Instead of Mike getting the feedback he is looking for he is stirring up alot of bickering. In January I sold my 800 and to the best of my knowledge it really did feel alot faster. I'm sure it was lighter than the new 1300r WaveRunner and that may have played a part on the feeling of it being faster. Thanks again and last I wanted to say that Mike was very excited to get the new 1300r WaveRunner and spent alot of his money to do so. If anyone has ever had anything positive to say about Yamaha it has been Mike. He has bragged for years about how good they really are. So if you seeing him getting mad on here it is just his frustraton showing. Bye

Hi. I have BR8ES-11 in the ski and in the tool-pac
thats what it came with..... |

Laura!!!!!!!!! I am going to smack you silly!!!
I feel like I am in elementary school and my mom has just came to my rescue. Let the men slug it out. The rain has let off and I am going to look and see what plugs are in my ski right now, maybe they put the wrong plugs in. |

My tool kit came with BR8ES-11. My 1300 has BR8ES-11 in it right now. I am going to get some new gas from a different gas station and see if it performs better today. I hope it does, the humidity is very high here right now, but nevertheless I think with different gas and the change of fresh plugs I might be able to get the performance that has been lacking here. Thanks to the guys who responded with there current sparkplugs, and Laura I am still going to beat your but today

Hey NJGP
You still have oil is your gas? That might be a alittle bit of a performance problem.Just remember you have a stock ski up against a slightly modded ski thats like putting might slightly modded p/u truck up against a new one.Im not trying to bust your b$##s so please dont take it that way.Rememeber anything you buy new can always use some mods no matter what it is.Well hopefully ill be getting down that way soon(after i put mine back together again)and we can hook up and do some wave jumping .Oh yeah dont go to hard on laura ill bet she just doesnt want to see this get all blown out of proportion. quote:Been following this thread just to see the outcome...might I say you handled yourself well. I wanted to make mention to the fact that humidity doesn't affect your ski's performance as much as temperature and barometric pressure do...I posted some information on this thread http://www.rivayamaha.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=015634 that shows you how. Have fun riding today! |

Mike-
CHILLLLLLLL OUT!!!!!! I didn't get to call you back last night cuz i got in at 3am. Didn't think you'd want me calling at that hour... Use the plugs that the manual and the engine sticker says. It's possible that all the websites are wrong because those sites are built before Yamaha releases the ski to the public. Perhaps they used different plugs on the preproduction models and then decided to switch for some kind of reason. Of course your older GPs will beat the 1300 out of the hole. Don't forget you have the 1300 completely stock and you are comparing it to a nicely modded 1200! When we get the ppk, the new prop, and new pump nozzle, that's all going to help on holeshot along with top end. It seems like you're really getting a temper too early. Give it time! You only have 3 hours on it, and you gave it a very quick break in. Your ski will wake up a little more as time goes on. And once we get the mods put on by Carl, it will ride like a new machine. MAYBE your older GP will still beat it off the line by some, but i don't think it will KILL the 1300 with the new prop and pump mods. You knew that the GP1200 would have a better holeshot before you bought the 1300. Even with the mods on the 1300, the 1200 probably will still beat it off the line because it has mods too. The 1200 will have a better holeshot mod per mod. You can't be shocked about that! Put those mods on the 1300 and the 1200s holeshot might still be better, but not by much. And the top speed of the NEW 1300 will easily catch up and pass your older 1200 without a sweat. GIVE IT TIME and wait and see how it handles after Carl gets done working his LI racing magic! P.S. CHILLLLLLLLLLL! ![]() |
