Need a little help here as i have no instructions...

When installing the pro-tec reed stuffer do you still use all the stock plates? There is a black plastic one that goes directly under the carbs and there is also a metal plate that goes over the reeds with about 1,000 bolts in it [Smile]

Also i noticed that yamaha uses some type of gray colored sealant on there gaskets and mating surfaces....Do i need to use sealant or just the dry gaskets?

Thanks

Its a walk in the park

Just remove the metal plate and discard, Install the reed stuffers. If all the gaskets look good you can reinstall dry. Its that simple

Carl @ Island sent me a new foamy gasket to use under the carbs. I discarded the stock gasket and the black plastic thick spacer plate. Just stick the stuffers into the reed cages, and the foamy gasket goes between the carbs and the stuffers. You have to add a small washer to all of the carb bolts or they will me a smidgen too long.

or

remove the steel plate, the stuffer replaces it

but keep the plastic spacer, it supposedly helps with the low end bog

the gasket can be reused, cover it with a little vaseline and put it between the carbs and the spacer

if you only have 1 gasket you will need to seal the other side of the plastic spacer, maybe use threebond 1211 on that

I had an exra carb gasket so I put a gasket on each side of the plastic spacer

Thanks guys....

Does anyone happen to know which kind of sealant that is that yamaha is using on there gaskets?

I also noticed they used the same stuff to seal the impeller duct/housing when i was changing out my prop.
