Elf boy Mario probably lives your dream life but I still dont understand why you bring that up. Anyway whose battle are you fighting??? You are arguing what you have not experienced, that is very stupid. Actually you do not have a case here.
You can make claims that this and that engine blew up and bla.bla.bla. We do not take chances on my end, and do not like to run on the edge either. I only recommend what I have personally used and tested. The entire rebuild of the ski was poorly done IMO. The ski ran like krap 6800 RPM 63 MPH. Slower than stock. IS THIS HOW YOU BUILD A RACE SKI??? By the way I do not make my living building ski's but am smart enough, actually smarter than average elf to be able to tell the difference between a well build engine and a re arranged pile of $hit. As far as Talibanco. I am heading to El Banco to get dome money.....Later |

i use a red scotch brite pad and soapy water , thats it ! mel miller told me a long time ago this is fine to do unless there is some damage . i also just used a regular stone hone on a slighly damaged gpr cyl, and it took 95 % of it out, the damage is way below the exhaust port so it would not matter anyways............

gents,
i still stand by 20 years of racing and building mx engines, scotchbrite pads and muriaic acid will not break the glaze or re establish the cross hatch needed to seat a new set of rings. if your way works, my hats off to you, but i know what works on my engines and i have never had any problems with a new top end. |

I have seen Watercross of Texas work first hand I agree with fercho do not let them touch your GPR. Check out the pictures that fercho took. |
||||
|
I have also seen it first hand and their work is FIRST CLASS!..........who else in the industry can take a stock Ultra, and without putting any aftermarket parts on it, just modifying what came on it, produce a ski that will run a consistent 70 MPH!!!!.....
Has anyone had there GPR's do that? If so, they haven't posted on here that I've seen...... That's the mark of someone who knows what they are doing......and Fercho, who else on here has shared your experience? Are you the only one????? If so, it stands to reason that there is always at least one dissatisfied customer......in any venue..... |

So where are these pictures that everyone seems to be talking about?
Fercho keep up the good work.. You are definitely a good thing to have happen to this forum with all the info. |

To those of you that provided some detail about the honing process.. thanks..
It appears that I've had some blowby, most likely due to worn rings.. I've used the Scotchbrite as some have mentioned to clean everything up from the minor carbon buildup. I then ran a ball hone through each and re-established the cross hatch. Didn't take much to remove the slight oil glaze from the cylinders. Also of note.. This gpr engine has 100 hours on it and I checked the cat-con while apart. The cat-con showed some initial signs of deteriation on the side exposed to the engine. I am replacing the cat and will have it covered under warranty. I've left this GPR motor stock due to the use it gets on more deserted rivers and lakes in MN. I don't have the ability to carry fuel with on some of my rides and know the results of poor octane fuel. I may stick some pump gas compression on it for specific rides later in the season where I can be certain of the fuel quality. I was surprised however that the rings were worn only after 100 hours of use..although most of these hours are at WOT..30 to 40 miles at a time on smooth water in some cases. The gap on the new rings measured exactly 18 thousands in the cylinders.. minimum that is speced in the manual. This gives me 325 hours of seat time on the GPR. I had 225 hours on my modded 00 GPR before getting the 01. Will have to go through a break-in process this weekend and then let it loose after the first tank is depleted. Allright.. back to the next round of...... [ 08-01-2002: Message edited by: MDKOCHE ] |

LSU Tiger I am not arguing that he may have done some great work on Kawi but the work that I saw on the GPR looked like sabotage.
Here is the story Bondo was applied to the bottom of the pump shoe. The pump shoe and intake grate where replaced because they where trashed, a large amount of bondo was also applied to the pump area. We had to shave the **** out of it and sand it to reshape it back to stock. The entire job was a $3k disaster. Fercho [ 08-01-2002: Message edited by: Fercho ] |

quote: If I were you, I would at least replace the cat with a D-plate. It won't hurt a thing. There are an awful lot of people having CAT problems around 30 hours or so. I am really suprised you made it to 100 hours with no CAT problem. Just a thought. Will |

WOW..I am not trying to add fuel to the fire here but those photos or fu**ing pathetic

Just while we're on the topic....
I had a look down my barrels last night and saw dark straight streak running down the cylinder about 1/8# wide above the exhaust port. It l@@kslike the ring scored the cylinder, though to the touch it's as smooth as the rest of the barrel and it still has the cross hatch lines from the honing. It looks more like a grey discoloration than anything else but it's such a straight uniform shape that only a ring could have caused it. I checked compression before the head was taken out and everything was in order (140, 140, 142). The boat has never seized or suddenly cut out at idle. Is this something I should be concerned about ![]() |

Mario the engine from the outside looked OK. The original carb jets where re-drilled and the OEM head was machines a cut out to be used with o-rings intead of a gasket.
6-8 hours after we rejetted the brand new set of reeds started to break because they where not properly fastened. The crank was never true & welded David was told that it was not needed, and a rod when thru the case about a month ago when David was flushing the water out of the engine. A COMPLETE DISASTER |

There are absolutely no words to describe that.. The only thing that I feel like doing right now is

OMG!! After seeing what WCOT (watercross) did to that GPR, there is no way in **** I’m sending them any of my Kawi parts either!!
I don't care if they are primarily a Kawi shop, there is no excuse for doing that to anyone’s ski, regardless of make!! I was always dubious of WCOT, thanks to Ferco, it has confirmed my fears and they will not be getting my business!! Thanks man!!! |

That Watercross of Texas that does not do good work must not be the same one as this one that had skis in Lake Belton last week end:
Pro-Am R/A 1200 stock 1st place Pro-Am Women R/A 1200 SS 1st place Novice R/A 1200 stock 5th place Novice R/A 1200 SS 5th place Is this the same shop that you must not bring your ski to? Fercho how many wins did you have lately? |
