My 96 701 Raider has 44 buckshots, but its taking a little time to dial them in.
At present i get about 62 mph on e-trex,but the last bit of throttle there is no more gain and im running 2 fuel lines to the carbs and still no gain.
Do i need bigger jets,or what?
Anybody have any ideas.

Kiwi what types of carbs do you have Magnums (Modified Super BN) or billet BRM's

It could have something to do with the rev limiter rather than a fuel issue. On a bike when you are topped out you won't hear the backfiring and sputtering like you do in a lower gear at high RPM, all that will happen is it won't pull anymore.

your probably a little over carbed. the motor will only pull what it needs. if your flattening out near 3/4 throttle then that is all she needs.

no big deal....if you had a slightly smallet throat it would probably give you improved bottom/mid throttle response (increased velocity).

but if you went smaller you may loose some top end. if the top number is what u want then your golden.

suggestion....put a pipe on it. youll use the rest of those carbs and pick up a ton of mid range. unless u already have the pipe, in that case send them cylinders out to get ported. Wink

go up on main jet by 5 and try it before you do anything radical. An improved timing curve would help too unless you already have one. What prop /rpm?

+5 on the main jet? just turn out the high screw a 1/2 turn and get the same result. he said its "the last bit of throttle"......its a little over carbed, in my opinion..........

Kiwi tape 1/2 of your flame arrestors to increase signal and see if you gain anything. If you gain acceleration or top end. you may want to consifder a set of Jetinetics tunable flame arrestors. (Records your RPM before and after the change)After taping the arrestor you will need to retune your highs since most likely it will deliver more fuel.

Ported cylinder
44 super BN carbs(modified by Buckshot)
taper bored,using 2 fuel lines.
Tiny Tach
Solas 15.5/18.5

If you are only getting 6800 rpms the rev limiter is not the answer. There are other things to do first. You still have 350 rpms to go on stock ignition. And a pro Tech mod would pull it up to an unobtainable limit for what you are running.

thats why i have not installed the rev limiter ,as there is no point of this at 6800rpms Wink

Kiwi whats your compression, Try the tape around the flame arrestors and see. Remember to readjust your highs.

im sticking to my guns, over carbed....until fercho can prove me wrong with those adjustable restrictor cones.....i learn something new everyday....hopefully this will be another learing experience in a positive way.

i would do this before anything else....take some prop out of that boat...get the rpms up near or over the 7k area....bet u use all that carb then. match the pump to those carbs. over carbed is not a bad thing, if u use it to your advantage.

u may be over carbed for that prop u have....spin it higher and let it BREATH

Fercho, never done the compression test ,but seems ok.But i'll borrow one and test it soon.
My ski used full throttle on the 38,s mukuni's with the prop i'm using now.
Now tell me more about the tape around the flame arrestors,do i adjust the highs in 1st or what do you suggest?
willing to learn.

Just tape it and see how it responds out of the hole. Then just adjust your highs. Your ski will go rich since you are increasing your carb signal.

Kiwi, first and foremost, check your piston wash, you will hopefully find that it is rich. If that is the case, then your high speed jet is too large. If your high speed screw is at 1 turn or less, then turn it all the way in and see what happens. If you find your lost RPM, then drop the high speed jet a size, turn the hi screw out to 1 turn, and test some more. Remember, the hi jet is good up to about 3/4 throttle, then the hi screw takes over fuel supply for 3/4 to full, UNLESS the hi jet is too large, then you are just dumping too much gas. With the mods you have, you should easily be pegging the stock rev limiter.

that was my original thought...with the pipe and cylinders it should be at or over the 7k area....

Thanks Bruce @WetWolf, I've been reading up on my Mikuni super BN carb Manual and it has some good trouble shooting ideas in there.
thanks.
