I took my new 1300 out yesterday for the second time to try and finish the break in period and it was produceing this side to side swaying motion all day.
I was in a calm river with little current and no waves. While rideing strait between 15 and 30 mph the ski would constantly sway from side to side. It was actually prety bad too. I though perhaps the jet was lose, or something but after a thourough look over when we got home I couldnt find anything obviously wrong.
Any suggestions on what could be causing this or perhaps what I should look for?

I noticed the same thing. I changed out the sponsons because I did not like the instability of the GPR at high speed. It cured it like a charm. The boat is way more stable.
CAJUN: Which sponsons did you get? Im not sure what the handling ability is higher speeds since Im still on the break in period atleast I can keep it in mind.
Is long as the sway is normal for these crafts then Im ok with that at this point. I was afraid something came lose or something wasnt working right.

my 2 cents ? normal really , at certain speeds and with the hull design , i think the ski is right at that point of trying to plane in the water or sit down

Just noticed it for the first time yesterday. I'm usually blasting away, so I've never experienced it. But I had someone on the back yesterday, and kept the speed down to a minimum. Lo and behold, the sucker was swaying just like you describe. Not really worrisome, but kinda weird. I've stepped the factory sponsons on mine, too.

Saw this on the riva board before getting my 1300r. Sure enough, it appeared between 25-27 mph on speedo. Just a little gas and its gone. Not a problem unless you intend on cruising in this speed range. Doesn't bother me enough to purchase add-ons.

Yep I noticed it yesterday also. I thought the ski was trying to keep a plane on one side of the hull. Keeping the keel at a angle. I have never noticed this before yesterday. Yesterday was the only time I ever had a pasanger on my GPR. Mick
IMHO, it's a normal thing with the GPR due to hull design. I've always said that the GPR was a de-tuned race ski that was meant to be modded right out of the box.
The GPR is a one trick pony, good for one thing only, going fast from Point A to Point.
Considering the way most people ride these things, I doubt Yamaha worried about the low speed handling.
Take your negitive comments elsewhere. I'm getting tired of seeing you dog it. You are one of a VERY FEW people who have had problems with the 1300R. 90% of the rest of the people on here that have one have had no problems. Get a clue. Every manufacturer has a few lemons in a pack. I'm sorry you got one of them, but stop your whining. It's getting really old.

what you are experiencing is 'chine walk' and it is normal for the gpr hulls at that speed range. sponsons all the way down will slow it down but it won't go away. who goes that slow anyway?

Well it must be nice mr. empty pants to have all that money to spend on a 9000.00 waverunner and fix all the defects. You must not be married and have children, Ther's more to life than spending money on a defected waverunner. But its your money so spend Mr. empty pants thats what yamaha wants you to do, yamaha is laughing all the way to the bank with all your money Ha ha hha. I will admit they are giving me a new motor. Just heard from customer relations they said yamaha is sending a new motor one day ups, so its on its way, now i have to get the dealer on the ball and have him put in in. Lay off freeman hes just speaking what he believes in just like you have your opinion. thats what this forum is all about different opinions and facts about yamaha.

Looks like you owe a few on this board some thanks for the advise they gave you and the sucess it provided you. Now if you tell me that you didn't gain anything from all the posts concerning your engine problem, then why do you continue with this board????
