Ever since I put the advent CDI in I can't get a proper reading. I know tiny tachs suck but I can't afford the advent tach right now and it worked fine with the stock ignition. When idling the tiny tach says ~0450 rpms. At WOT it registers about 6000 rpms but I know the engine is easily turning 7000+. It was 7150 before I put the advent in. Top end is where it was before too. I have the red tiny tach wire wrapped about 6 times around the front spark lead at the narrow section between the spark plug cap and the red insulating lead.

If you've got the tiny tach working with the advent please tell me how you did it . [Big Grin]

Thanks.

Wrap it to the rear No.1 plug wire close to the electrical box.

Did you get the right model Tiny Tach.

Thanks Fercho, I'll give that a try. It's the 3-cylinder "2x" model tiny tach. It was working fine for the past year until I switched to the advent.

I have the same problem. Inaccurate readings since adding the Advent CDI.
Thought the Tiny Tach had gone bad or something.
It's not even close to the factory or the Advent tach even at idle. Idle is at least 600 RPMs slow at idle.

Don't understand!! A spark pulse is a spark pulse!!

Got it! The trick was to disconnect the white ground wire. It worked all afternoon yesterday. I also gave the red wire 9 wraps around the #1 spark lead for good measure.
