Hey guys ... I think I'm part of the Yamaha PV problem club. Here's what I know at this point. I was riding a river yesterday at a steady 5000-5500 rpm. I had an immediate loss of power with a noise similar to a plugged intake but much louder accompanied with heavy vibration. It felt like I lost a cylinder, then the engine died. Restarted, and limped to shore (about 20 feet), then got just a click from the starter. Intake was free of debris, but I haven't had a chance for a visual. The 13r has 13+ hours. Is this PV's?

I don't know what it is, but it sounds like Yamaha still can't get it right.

That sucks. Being that it's under warranty, let's see what your dealer says becuase inspecting it yourself is not an option.

How did you like the river.
Did you run out of gas, was told you were running very low. Watch out for those little hick store gas pumps, most are full of low octane $hit water gas.
Where did you break down?

Oh boy! Here we go again. Yamaha is going down the tubes fast. Sorry to hear about your ski though.

I would say a crank or piston/cylinder seizure
or maybe a oil injection lubrication problem.

Did you add oil to the fuel during break in?

Have you had to add oil to the oil injection since you purchased the ski?

i hope you didn't buy your ski from Barnie's, you already know if you did that the ski will sit in the shop for weeks until they can get one of their incompitent techs to look at it .Hopefully you got it from Action in Bradenton ....if you bought it from another dealer Action will still service (warrenty) you (tell them about barnie's and they'll understand)

were you at the ALAFIA river????? i ride that river occasianally.........sorry to here about your ski.............Most ski's (yamaha's) during the first 10-15 hrs have problems.......I did on my 1200......sort of like working out the bugs...once its worked out i'd say you should be problem free for awhile......sounds like pv out of alighnment ...its time while its in the shop to do the powercore(new 1300 d-plate)remove cat , and the k&n(riva) power filter gimmick, prop, etc....

BTW i was at the courtney campbell causeway a week ago and a guy w/ a brand new 1300 was there, he had only 5 hrs on ski(still in the break in process)We ( a bunch of heavily modded Gpr1200's)
conned him into raceing [Big Grin] and got him to gps the 1300 as well....61.4 is all he got , mind you the break in...he did jump a boat lenghth on some less modded 1200's but didn't have enough top to come close yet!!!!! what are you running?

Still bone stock with ~10 hrs - I was seeing 61.5 - 62 with a full tank. Once that burned off to a 1/4 tank it was running 64.5 - 65.

Is there I hunk of cylindre missing at the large port?

You Know If it is a a PV I would demand My money BACK

What is up with this co.It is either Piston ring pins,PV's ,cranks, cats, poor pump sealing , when does it end.

Yes oil was added to the fuel as stated in the owners manual.

Have you had to add oil to the oil injection since you purchased the ski?
Yes ... added for the first time and toped it off with about 3/4 of a gal before taking it out this time. When adding, I remember thinking that my GP12r would have used considerably more then 3/4 gal.

I'm not going to tear into it ... let Yamaha fix their mistakes. But I will be involved enough to find out the cause and how they fix it.

I'm not going down that road. I've been doing this to much on the car side to know that will never happen. It's not worth the time, angor, and effort, even trying. I'll be happy with a good repair.

How did you like the river.
Man was that a cool ride. I will be going back there soon. It's the best place I've ever rode. I never thought fresh water could offer so much.

Did you run out of gas, was told you were running very low. Where did you break down?

We never ran out of gas cause my ski broke down about 10 miles north of the 3rd lock from Lake Okeechobee. Do you know Larry? We rode with him and would like to contact him about going again?

You should get to know Florida.
From the only coral reefs in the USA to Silver Springs, Ocala forest to the everglades and the vast river systems and wildlife not to mention spring break in South Beach. The only things we don’t have are mountains, although sometimes the swells in the Gulf Stream seem mountainous to me!

Ya I know Totomus, I made him into the river rat he is [Smile] ask him next time you see him.
We are going up Sunday

What’s up with the 1300?

Greg, did you check the pump? I had a similar situation with my GPR last year while riding, large vibration, motor died, wouldn't turn over. After checking it when on the trailer it was a rock wedge in between the impellor blades binding on the wear ring. Took the pump off and got the rock out and it cured the problem. Just a thought.

If you've purchased your new 1300 with Yamaha credit you'll have a huge amount of leverage to obtain another "new" 1300R as a replacement. Use that leverage, if you have it, with Yamaha corporate customer service.

Thas is assuming that you've had an internal engine failure of significant magnatude.
