Do you want to retain the fuel valve? Are you planning to install a triple fuel pick up?

Brett!
Great freakin idea!
I'm ****** i didn't think of it!

My GP oil tank is higher than the fuel tank so i think it would just drain into the fuel tank if i put a cap with a check-type vent valve on the oil tank. The tank is already resistant to breaking down due to oil so i bet gas wouldn't hurt it either. Hmmm maybe i'll put another larger tank in place of the oil tank. Sounds like fun project.

The way these pigs love fuel it sounds worthwhile too! Good luck and keep us informed..

This has been done by others but just not sure if anyone has on a GPR and if so what is the best cleanest way to do it?

brett, i have put 2 550 kawi gas tanks to gether in the past. i cut the tanks to fit on top of each other and melted the tanks together by heating up a screw driver. also you can cut 1/8 strips of the same plastic and feed it in as you melt it to gether for a good weld bead. so maybe you can cut the coner out of another tank and weld it where the oil tank is. they also make a plastic welding kit for all types of plastic to repair car bumpers. ask your snap-on dealer.....just an idea

see ya....

After looking closely at the oil and fuel tank, I came to the conclusion that you should be able to just run a line from the bottom of the tank to the top of the gas tank. Use an electric valve (you know the ones that open with a switch) and when you get to 1/4 tank or so, flip the switch and the fuel in the oil tank can drain into the fuel tank. Seal the top of the oil tank and place a oneway check valve in it for air intake.

Just my thoughts. Outta work though. I just figured out why you were wanting to do this. Good luck! Big Grin

This outta be good for 17.35 total gallons of fuel

Will, I need it to allow for more range. I am going premix as well so the tank either comes out or I try and figure a use.

The electric valve you mentioned....is that a pump as well? What about just putting the hose from the bottom of the oil tank straight down into fuel tank so gravity will do it. Then no switch/pump needed?

Maybe you can run a hose to your fuel take from the oil tank,as long as the hose in the oil tank is near the bottom i think it may siffon itself into the fuel tank when the pressure builds up in the oil tank.

You can buy kits for long-range tanks on off road trucks (I know for LandCruisers). Most of the sets I've seen have a small pump and you switch it on to pump from the aux tank into the main.

Check out www.sor.com (Specter Off Road) and www.man-a-fre.com both those guys sell the setups (and some bad-*** TLC stuff for those so inclined Big Grin )

(http://www.sor.com/sor/cat250.tam?xax=4622&page%2Ectx=cat250%2Etam has the transfer pump, $45, runs on 12v so should work on a PWC) You could probably use any automotive electric fuel pump and just hook it up to a switch.

Thats what I am talking about. I just didn't know if it would overflow in the lower fuel tank. Thats why I suggested an electric valve between the two tanks. I knew you were talking about for endurance racing. Talk with you soon

It sounds like a great idea for Recreational Use. Especially to extend the range when using pre-mix.

However, for IJSBA sanctioned racing and endurance racing I believe it would not be illegal.

Per the 2002 IJSBA Rule book:

Endurance Racing:

15.5 FUEL SYSTEM, FUELING AND PIT STOPS Previously called PIT STOP AND REFUELING.
15.5.1 The entire fuel system is a closed system. The watercraft must not vent or spill fuel at any attitude with or without the engine running. Original equipment fuel tank must be used. Fuel filler assembly may be aftermarket or modified. The fuel filler assembly must be mounted thru the deck (i.e. no internal refueling allowed.). The fuel pickup and fuel filter(s) may be removed and/or aftermarket parts may be used. Fuel tap assembly may be modified, aftermarket or removed. Additional fuel filters may be used and fuel cell foam may be added to the original equipment fuel tank. Modified or aftermarket vapor/air separators must not exceed 2in x 6in, and must have a return line to the fuel tank open at all times. Additional fuel reservoirs may not be used.

Modified Class:
9.1.35 The entire fuel system is a closed system. The watercraft must not vent or spill
fuel at any attitude with or without the engine running. Original equipment fuel
tank, fuel filler and relief valve must be used and cannot be modified. The fuel
pickup, fuel filter and fuel tap assembly may be removed and/or aftermarket
parts may be used. Additional fuel filters may be used and fuel cell foam may
be added to the original equipment fuel tank. Modified or aftermarket vapor/air
separators or fuel reservoirs may not be used.

BP Motorsports: (Organizer of LB2CAT)

30.3 - FUEL TANKS: Only approved or OEM fuel tanks must be used. Oil reservoirs or extra fuel tanks or cells are not currently approved to be used for dispensing race fuel. You cannot use oil reserve or injector tanks.
