Any info would be great,
Looking at changing to Gas Valves, are these really better than the stock PV. Please feel free to add you 2 cents worth. Cheers Peter |

I like mine but if you use them you will not be able to use your Hot Tach with the stock exhaust manifold because they would be on the way. so stick to the Riva/RD valves.

Mine were the bane of my GPR's existence. I will NOT be putting them on my new boat.

Fercho,
Are you 100% sure? Have you seen or heard of a simialr set up? Looking at he pictures on the RIVA site show them sitting on the OEM PV housing. I can just angle the probes to get clearance... Cheers Peter |

Peter take a lok at this picture...
What do you think is holding me from installing the Hot Tach. Good Luck |

Fercho,
You are assuming that the EGT probes are a rigid item, they infact can be bent very easily. Your photo does allow a different pespective on things. Although I may have to change the entry angle of the probes, I do not see it being to difficult. I previously indicated I would install probes differently if I did it again, this may just be the reason to change them. Thanks for the picture, dont let that hold you back, GO THE EGT it will fir fine with your Gas Valves. Cheers Peter |

Thanks Peter I already got me an extra exhaust manifold to get it done. I will wait a few more weeks before I start that project.
By the way I have been doing some reading and every probe needs to be at the same distance and angle from the piston in order to obtain equal temp readings Thanks |

Yes that is correct, all need to be in the same position.....
Good luck Cheers Peter |

Peter,
I had the gas valves, and they performed as advertised. BUT..... you have to tinker with them soooo much. If they are not exactly right, and any one of them leak, or if a valve starts to stick, or if they are not exactly adjusted right... you will not get the RPM's you are looking for. I've gone to the Advent CDI and have not looked back. Yes the Advent has its own brand of issues, but once they are resolved, it is a done deal. Gas valve issues will not go away. Salty this thing is killing me!!! |

Fercho,
What modification is that too your Gas Valves?? I see a large hole in the cap, plus a slot and a different retention device. What is the purpose of each?? Who did the modification?? Thanks, Stewart |

Stewart the 3/4 inch hole allows me to see the movement of the cap. instead of the spring that holds the bellaw in place I use a very thin about 2-3 mm thick nylon tie to secure it and preventt leakage which is a problem that the Sea-Doos also have. The small cut on the side was made to allow the head of the nylon tye to clear the cap.
Mel Miller cut an additional notch on the underside of the cap to allow proper lift and machine the valve to clear the exhaust port properly. The valves came with allen cap screws which created a problem since the valve did not completely close. I had to call to get a set of button head screws to correct this problem. I had to use springs from GroupK. RIVA NEVER PULL TRU WITH SPRINGS FOR SINGLE PIPE SETUPS. On my last post I was advised that they were looking into it and it has been months. I was advised by sales the setup would be easy. No way it was not. Its easier to tune the Stinger than to tune them Gas valves. I have them now and will continue using them but if I had todays choices I think that the billett valve is a better choice I have my valves running thanks to third parties. I feel that Riva support of this valves is very poor. [ 01-21-2002: Message edited by: Fercho ] |

Are you running the full size caps or the shortened caps that GroupK provided.
I agree, RIVA and others should have researched and made available the correct springs for use with single pipe. I too have gas valves, and now that they have the right springs, I love them. |

Only the cap onthe 1st cylinder was shortened.

My sentiments follow Salty exactly. I got some stock Riva gas valves and had them installed by Harry Klemm. I had nothing but problems with them from day one until the day I sold my boat. For them to work, you need to check them ever ride.
Maybe if you send them to Mel Miller and do the tricks that Fercho has figured out on his own, then they *MIGHT* work regularly. But, I am not into that. I just want to ride...fast. -Jarrett |
