i have a 01 gpr and will fire it up for its first time ever. i dont think i need to prime oil lines because the first tank of gas is 50:1 pre mix. Do i need to prime the gas lines and if so how do i do this with out a primer kit installed? Also it was not prepped by the dealer so is there anything else i need to do??
thanks |

Purge the oil line by lossening the screw next to the idle speed adjustor until oil comes without bubbles. Make sure that your trim cables are secured and not backwords and make sure that your power valve cables are properly adjusted and correctly installed. Since you will be running 50:1 ratio in addition to oil injection of 30:1 ratio at full thrtottle do not pin the throttle because you will be running lean in reality actually about 20:1 ratio at full throttle.

it easier if you have a vacuum pump...remove the fuel return line from the tank connection and siphon/vacuum pump the line. that will pull fuel from the tank and prime the carbs.
You can do the oil the same way with the pump and then reuse your oil. make sure your fuel vavle is on |

The dealer does not bleed the oil line nor prime the fuel system prior to delivery. It is delivered from Yamaha to the dealers already run briefly.
Also for those that want to prime the fuel system you BLOW air into the fuel return line to pressurize the tank and lines going to the carbs. It is important to fill the battery with battery acid and fully charge it. Other than some minimal assembly of the handlebars and misc. items you should be all set. yes...oil lines are already primed the carbs/return line hook up is under the exhaust pipe....easier to remove from the tank side. |

we both have the same concept in therory
your suggestion pulls fuel thru the carbs, mine pressures the tank and forces it thru the fuel delivery lines to the carbs. you can always remove the return line at the tank and attach another hose to that tank inlet and blow into it to pressurize the system. I'd be a bit worried about ripping the diaphragms in the carbs with the vacuum method you mentioned, but thats me |

Do any of you think the dealer goes through this! NOT. Premix the tank start and let idle then add a flush line. They do hook a charger to the battery while cranking. I come from the old school. Put a little gas in the spark plug holes and start it up. I have never hurt a thing doing this. NOT much gas though. **** that was the only way to get my friends GSXs to start after the infamous recall on the carbs to prevent water ingestion. Gota love Sea Doo!
Oil pumps are primed at the factory. [ 03-20-2002: Message edited by: AUSTIN ] |
