Ok, I ripped off the stock trim tabs on my '97 GP1200. Now I have 4 bolts in the hull. Are there nuts on the other side? Are the nuts glued to the hull so that if I unscrew the bolts, I can screw them back in when I put on new tabs? I dont want to be left with 4 straight-through holes with no thread if the nuts fall off inside the hull. I don't feel like taking all that foam out of the hull. It looks like a pain.
Yes there are nuts on the other side of the trim tab bolts. In order to make it easy for you, you will have to take the back side of the ski apart. That includes foam, waterbox and other miscellaneous things. It is a little bit of a pain but well worth it. Get the Riva or Pro-Tec billet trim tabs and you will be happy in the long run.

Ok, if I get some trim tabs made out of 3/16" aluminum, and then coutersink some fat screws into them and into the hull, and coat the back of the tabs with silicone, would this work? I think $100 for a couple pieces of aluminum is rediculous.
Yes that will work. You actually want to take a look at Chris Smith's website. He has a pic on there with custom tabs that he made or had made. They are definitely trick. From my understanding they also eliminate all porpoising with them.
