I was at my dealer today and he asked me if I had any problems with the steering on the FX140. I told him that the only issue was that it seemed harder to turn than other skis we have ridden. He said they just received a service bulletin regarding that exact issue. There is a kit that they can order to correct the problem. I didn't see the bulletin but he described it as a tolerance type of issue. He is going to order the kit for our FX 140. I'll let you know when I find out more.

The steering on my FX140 became so difficult to turn that I felt it was not safe to ride. I took it to Riva and they told me that they had to replace the steering box. This was done and it was ok for about two weeks. The steering is now getting stiff again and I am going to have to return it for repair. I was told by the service people that this is a common problem as they had to wait some time for the parts.

The phrase the service guy used was service bulletin and not recall. It is an issue as on our ski, you can set the direction and take your hands off the wheel and it will hold the direction. Hmmm, if we could add a cruise control, that would make it really interesting

after reading you guys' post, i called my dealer to check on my FX140. he had not heard of anything so checked with yamaha (via service tag or whatever) and said that my ski was not in the range of the ones with this problem - that it was skis built in a certain period, something about steering cables being strung too tightly and that ones that were fixed in the factory had a white strip on them...?
i guess i will know soon enough - currently only 4.5 hours on it. cannot wait to get back out on water this weekend. i think i am feeling a mental health sickday coming on. hmmmm....
