I can't go any tighter on the hose clamps or it will RIP the rubber boot, I don't understand why this keeps happening. At about 5000 RPM's the boot is so full of water that it looks like its going to pop right before the boot blows out of the hose clamp. I have even bypassed the inline water restrictor with a piece of straight hose, but the same thing happens.
Thanks TD |

I believe you are talking about the lower boot by the waterbox? This trick will help with that boot or the one at the top. I have a supercharged car and blow the couplers off all the time. I was complaining to a friend when a gentleman overheard me and offered this advise. About 1/2 inch in on the pipe take a small 3 inch piece of a broken hack-saw blade and saw into your pipe just a little so you can feel it, about 1 inch long. Saw in the direction around the pipe like the clamp goes. Do this in 3 or 4 spots around the pipe. Now when you tighen the rubbler coupler down it will fill the groves and have a very hard time comming off. I did this and have never, Never blown another coupler. Hope this helps Will [ 08-07-2002: Message edited by: Liquid Missile ] |

Thanks for the help but I am talking about the top, where the Exhaust boot goes over the stock exhaust, and Stinger 3 head with the water restrictor.

TD if you do a search this was talked about allot on the Stinger 2's. I have never had a problem with mine when it was on my boat. I have run about 5 1 1/2 hour endurance races plus normal rec riding and never had an issue with mine.
You will want to make sure that the boots are clean as are the exhaust flange. Sand the back side of the rubber boot and also where the hose clamp goes. Tighten it down to spec then ride the boat till the pipe is warm to a touch. Retighten the clamps again. Then take it out again. You will want to retighten it a couple of times and then after that you should be all set. Another thing I did was use the stock hose on the bottom side of the rubber piece that connects the stock exhaust to the Riva flange. I found that grey hose to work much better. Also leave about a 1/16" gap between the end of the hose and the ends of the pipe and flange. Hope this helps. |

Well that is where I had all the problems. That is where I used this trick. I fixed it. Also there is a proper way to set up the top Riva stinger section first to help.
First, take the top pipe off the Stinger, then loosen the clamps on the top coupler you are talking about and slide it back over the stock pipe. Next loosen one of the inner coupler clamps. then slide the Riva top head assymbly towards the back of the boat about 1/2 inch or so. NOt all the way off, just back a little. Then slide the top coupler that you are having problems with back into place. Make sure the coupler fits nicely into the lip on both pieces. Then very carefully without moving the Riva assymbly, slide off the outer coupler(the one you are having problems with)so you can get a 7mm socket or nut driver on the two inner clamps on the inner coupler. Tighten them up and then the outer coupler is perfectly possitioned. If I were you I would still do the hack-saw thing on the toppipe also. I did and like I said It has never even moved. Will |
