I took my 1300 out today for the first time. I decided to ride it for 30 minutes breaking it in, then riding how I normally ride for the next 30 minutes. There was a 1 foot chop in most spots of the bay , but I also found some areas with just ripples. I did not radar it or Gps it.

Handled good going into chop and kept hooked up for the most part. Midrange to topend was very good. It had alot of pull to it. I was able to sit down and ride when I wanted to and not have to worry about bouncing around like a clown like how I do on my old GP hulls. Also was able to sustain faster speeds through the chop compared to the older GP hulls. Note: I have never had a 1200r so I am comparing this to the 97-99 1200's and the 98-00 800's.
Dislikes...
Thought it was flat out dangerous riding with the chop. Even with the adjusting of the trim and my riding position I found the nose of the 1300 would dig into the recovery of a chop and almost send me over the handlebars and spray/hose me down with water. It did this alot and did not go away even when I went down to a 1/2 tank of gas. I do not know if this happens with the 1200r, and/or if it was just because it was pretty rough here in the bay. When flushing the ski out of the water it doesnt idle at a normal rpm, it varys constantly and if you try to give it gas it will almost bog, I am guessing because the pump is not under load. Also I dislike how the exhaust dumps out on the drive, makes a nice film for me to clean up after everyride I guess. Last there is no room to get my big hands into the engine compartment to work on. Just thought I'd post my first experience with my new ski and to see if any1 has any feedback.
I do like this ski, but I think it is going to get a little getting used to before I can really call it a slamdunk purchase for me.
P.S. The dreamo hit 72 what ever that means.

My RX-DI does the same thing on the trailer. If you give it gas it bogs and almost die's. Must be how they have to have fuel injected ski's set up.

Whats up frewman. That makes me feel better. I've talked to a guy on this forum who has a 1300r too and he said the same thing. It must be because of this fuel injection. I just dont understand how, but I guess I'll figure it out soon hopefully. I have to say though, it really sounds horrible when I am flushing it. Whenever I sell this ski, down the road, if the person has no idea that these skis do this they are going to be like what the """" is the matter with it.

must be Yamahas new:

Traction Control - To manage the awesome power of the GP1300R, Y.E.M.S. utilizes a traction control feature that alters fuel/air mixtures. This system enhances acceleration by reducing prop spin and achieves top end performance by maintaining engine RPM

kicking in because there is no load on the impeller

NJGP, I'm sure your not going to have any problems dialing her in, and I know what you mean about getting used to a ski.

I used to ride my buddies XL800 2 summers ago, and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, the dreamo read 54 and all...I was stoked!...

Went out the following summer and got my GPR1200, and was like WTF!!!!!!! THIS IS AWESOME!!!...I couldn't believe how much more fun the my GPR was....

Hopefully I will see you out in the bay Memorial Day weekend. If you ride out toward me, check out Cocktail Cove....I'm either there or by the Toms River Bridge...See Ya

This is my territory. If you come down here you can only be 2nd best. [Cool]
You should come down here next weekend, there is going to be a ton of skis on the bay here. Hopefully the weather will hold up. I'm going out now on my 1300 to finish that first tank of gas. See how I like it today.

To be honest, I don't know the bearing off hand in relation to the bridge...All I know is I keep coming from the bridge all the way out until you can't go anymore, bang a left around the tip and there it is...

You would see all the boats with anchors dropped not to far away...if anything I'll head out toward the bridge and see If I can spot you..

You gonna ride your 1300r or your GP?..

I'll see you guys this weekend. I'll be in my full red/black slippery getup...

Trying to get the UMI bars done before then also..so look for a possible GPR with Riva decals and UMI's..

The Riva Decals add to my Top-end..LOL They make for a good scare tactic as well..LOL

I know where you are talking about now. You must have your house in Silverton and where the place cocktail cove is, is the backside of Catus Island Park. I will be out there late Saturday, as much as I want Sunday, and as much as I want Monday. I have a job Sat. at 12:00 [Frown] , so I am lookng to be out on the water by hopefully 3:30. John , whats up? Are you gonna call me this weekend. We might get that guy SKYSURFER down here so we can put together a pack and take over this bay. You out there Greg? You think you might come down here this weekend. You could bring a change of clothes you know and we can all hit the bar later to. By the way, I raised my sponsons on my 1300 when I went out today, and its terrible. Ski hops and hops and hops. Even if its just a ripple it still freakin hops. Looks like I am going to have to step them. Did you drill your middle slot out yet?
P.S. The dreamo hit 74 today, 2 mph faster than yesterday. [Big Grin]
Then again I was down to an empty tank.. Duhhhhh

Someone calling me??

I'll be out there at least one day this weekend. I'm not sure about the bar since I might be doing some flying this weekend! haha. And on Monday my arse has to be at the **** airport working. Why do airports have to be open on holidays???? [Confused] Maybe I'll close shop up early on Monday and head out.

I haven't stepped my sponsons yet. BTW- my dreamo hit 75mph yesterday... but I'm also 65lbs lighter! Don't worry, I'll throttle back in "your" territory [Big Grin]

I don't ride a GPR but mine does this in like 3 -4 foot swells...not 1 foot chop....1 foot chop and I just skip across the tops of the waves....something doesn't seem right... [Confused]

LSU-

I noticed the same thing. When you launch off some chop and get some small air, when the ski lands into the next small wave, the nose will dig into it and come to a stop and spray you down. I was also pretty concerned about this. I didn't like that. How is this ski gonna react to some wave jumping? I wonder if this will be too dangerous of a ski to jump with if the nose likes to dig into the second swell instead of going over it.

It doesnt do it with my Older GP hull. I can jump as high as I want to and recover fine and I can ride with the chop or jump big boat wakes and it is fine. This GPR just seems to have a big, fat, heavy nose.

I will look for you. I wear full gear and will have on a blue helmet.
Then again I'm the only nut out there who ever wears a helmet. Better be safe then sorry. My first and only experience on an Ultra 150 in the chop brought me to this. [Razz]
