I am new and wanted to say, HELLO.

I was wondering if you guys would help me out a little.

I have a 2002 GP1200R, I was told it was the fastest stock 02 on the planet, so why do I get beat by Kawi's????????

What could I do(some mods) to get it a little faster, Try to keep the cost below $1000.00.

I ride mostly on the south shore of Long Island,
I tent to rip around Jones beach, I have fallen in love with jumping the Breaking waves(well, try to get them before they break, lol)

I have been beatin by a couple of nasty waves on a couple of Nor-Easters, so I need my wavey to
be a bit more responsive.

Youre help would be great

My GP1200R is stock to the bone, I have just extended the warranty for another 3 years, So I dont want to void it.

So if you could let me know what some mods that I can feel, I would be happy.

What would you guy's do if you had a stock GP12

Peace, Chris

What up man, I was doing the same thing about 3 weeks ago, this is what I did. I modded for the same reason, got beat by and ultra. sigh... But not anymore. Your best bet if you want to feel the difference and easy install and spend under 500$ look on the boards for all the stuff in my signature. you can get it all used on these forums for cheap. I think I spent on total of 350$ for all that. thru 3 different guys. Good luck and if you buy parts brand new Riva has kick *** install instructions. my next mod will be heads.

look for my post, it explains what I felt after the install i think its titled mods and results. That will tell you everything you need to know. You will feel the difference, as far as install goes, I had never installed anything on the waverunner before, So what I did was got all the instructions of many different sites I looked over them all got the anti-sieze greese, and the silicone and the marine glue. You shouldnt have any problems, You have to buy a shaft holder to install a new impellor. I was lucky and when i went to the dealer to buy one and they didnt have one, they said they would take my impellor off and reinstall my solas for no charge, Another reason why I love my Yamahaa dealer. Check with your dealer if your worried about your warrenty, have them install it but it will cost ya they wanted to charge me 300 bucks for all my mods when it took me 3 hrs and i know it was done right. Its all up too you, if you have any problems all the guys on this forum are pretty good when it comes to helping the new guys.

Check out ISLANDRACING.net, He is out of Long Island and he is a respected man on this forum. He can help you out big time. By the way, if you are jumping waves then you have the wrong hull for it. You want the 98-2000 GP800 or the 98-99 GP1200. They launch and soar like no other out there and they accelerate better than your 1200r.

Yes, Island racing will work on the pump and handling package without touching the engine (hence not voiding the warranty) and will dramatically improve your ski.

Will the pump n handle kit increase top speed??

Wich is the cheapest mod for more speed and quicker speed, for those times you wipe and have to escape the allways bigger second wave that's got that "should respect the power of the Ocean
look" ( OHHHH $hit.......?????????

You actually need the Riva ride plate, The 13/19 Solas impeller, the pump plug kit with sealant, I prefer industrial grade silicone (the 5200 takes too long to cure) and the 2 bar Riva intake grate. Those mods will help your holeshot and top end. Your top speeds should be around 67 mph with those mods.

You need to step your sponsons when you do these mods or your ski will porpoise.

You can get more aggressive modding the angle of the Riva plate but it might induce to much porpoising. Machining the skegs off the plate helps with top speed. I didn't notice a significant loss in handling performance or a significant gain in top speed either.

What I have listed is about $600 worth of parts new. You can probably find some deals on used parts.

Good Luck

Thank you, what will the labor cost, can I do it myself on my jet dock(its a big wood slanted ramp w/carpet)

btw I spray the engine w/ WD40 and the whole nossle area after every ride, I have about 40 hours on it and have yet to grease anything.

Is there grease gun fittins on the ski?
Do I do it by hand??

1 more thing, Why do people get a bildge pump, do they leave it in the water or something.

Would just getting a new prop do any good?
Will rejetting keep me from bogging on starts after I stop for a couple of minues.

Sorry but I do need the help, Thanks

First thing that comes to my mind is asking you if you flush, and you better becase salt will ruin you ski.
A bilge pump isn't an every day use item but it's a lot of added safety at low cost, especially on a GPR which has its carbs located really low in th hull and are very prone to water ingestion.
Since you live in long island, instead of doing it yourself, ask Island to do it, for 1000$ you could get an impeller, a grate, a plate, a D plate and a C7 chip, all mounted, secured and sealed by Island, you won't recognize your ski.

I will check that out 11, Thanks

BTW I changed the house hoses all around my yard for quick access to flush the ski, infact I run and do it as soon as I slide up my backyard floating ramp, then just turn the ski nose up and let out the bildge rear drains, then close, wipe up, and spray the whole moter area with WD40 aswell as the whole tail gtrates and prop and nossle, then take out the storage unit in the front and spray the trim system a lot, and
then I give it a kiss before the birds sh!t on it, or worse when the local SWANS decide to take over my little layout, if so I feed them and they too sh!t on my dock, giving me a greenish looking front hull after p4ush-off the following morning,

anything else,lololo
