If I have the old style power valves in my 01 GP 1200R, can I get away with just changing the pins with the R+D ones,or do I need to change the valves (pins on order) Thanks in advance

couldn't tell, but it was built 02/01/01 so I think they would be the brass ones. After reading all the postings, it sound like the pins are causing the valves to fail.

there is a aprox. cut off date around 03/2001, but I have been told that its is the pin that makes the valves fall into the piston, but the brass ("old style") valves wear out and could or will touch your piston. The date is on the blk elec. box

Pull the vavle covers, take a q-tip and clean the gunk from the bushing. -02 valves have a brash bushing, the bushing is too short, pins are a problem.
IMO...all yamaha power valve engines need a set of pin retainers.
i just installed a set of riva oem performance valves in my gpr looking how these are designed i cant see how they would ever fail and they are made of billeted aluminum!!
hey riva crew thx for getting the valves and the manual to me in such short notice and mark with riva you da man!!
