have 00 gpr1200 has twnety hours and loving every minute of it. can not seem to get a clear answer about oil from anyone. do I have to use 2-w oil.
feep hearing about cat-con failure if I do not use it I do not want to modify exhaust because I bought the extended service. do not even mind paying $15.00 a gallon for oil just tired of giving it to local dealer.(they suck) so who makes compatible oil that will not hurt warrenty or if I do buy D-plate where can I get it and what oil can I use once it is installed. HElp !!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes you must use 2-w oil. It is critical. It should say it on your waverunner right by the engine compartment.

If you go with the d pplate, or c plate, you can use any TCW-3 compatible oil. TCW-3 is PWC grade oil. Can get it anywhere in almost any dealer including most boat shops in bulk form. Take your old gal jugs and get them refilled.

some have mentioned (w/o cat) running synthetics for cleaner running and less goo on the powervalves... lots of good choices (do a search) penzoil, amsoil, etc etc etc.

We have always used amsoil in all of our boats. All of em have about 100 or more hours on them and everyone of em competes in the Region 5 Endurance runs. The powervalves have never given us a problem with clogging up or anything.

But as far as your answer goes, you must use a TCW-3 marine grade oil. It doesnt have to be Yamalube, it just has to be TCW-3 or compatable.

GPRs sold outside of the US do not have the catalytic converter. You can easily remove the cat and replace it with the same D-Plate as these non-US boats. This mod is about $100. Do a search on d-plate to get more info on this.
Doing this relatively simple mod has 3 advantages
1) you remove the risk of having a catalytic converter failure, which the GPR is prone to having
2) you reduce the temperature inside the engine compartment - thus the engine will perform better
3) you can now use any good PWC 2 stroke oil.
