98 GP 1200 --- the question is this: can you remove and replace the impeller housing without having to remove the impeller? I have removed the nozzle and I am staring at the impeller cap. Do I have to remove the cap, nut, beaing, etc., or does the impeller duct and housing pull apart like the nozzle and duct do and just slide off over the driveshaft?
Forgive me TMG, but I do not understand your answer. Are you saying the impeller housing can't be removed without removing the impeller AND driveshaft? I have never worked on this part of the GP before,so I am flying blind. I just want to replace the impeller housing, and I don't want to remove any part I don't have to. Thanks Bob
The impeller and pump stator install behind the housing, you will have to pull these in order to access the housing. The impeller does not have to be removed from the shaft, but shaft impeller and stator remove as one piece. Do not remove the "cap" (pump cone) remove the 4 long bolts on the corners and pull the stator, it will come out in one piece leaving the housing attache to the hull by two bolts on the top sides.

Mario --- I have removed the 4 long bolts. If I pull on the stator, will the driveshaft disconnect, or do I have to disconnect it at the engine? If the driveshaft is disconnected at the engine, will the shaft, impeller and pump stator slide out the back in 1 piece, making it possible (and easy) to replace the impeller housing? Or do you have to remove the pump shoe as well?
After you have the four bolts out, take a large screwdriver and put in the tabs on the side of the pump to pry the pump loose and then it will pull straight out the back with the shaft. Be sure to grease the spline end when you reinstall. rp
The driveshaft will slide right out, you mught have to pry it appart from the housingm on the sides you will see tabs that are there just for that purpose, you may use a screwdriver to try and pry the seams appart, no need to remove anything else nor do anything at all in the engine compartment.
