Hi guys, I have the opportunity to purchase a hardly used second hand set of factory triples and MSD total loss ignition that have come off a wrecked GPR. I can buy it all for less than half price for new.
Now, the big question is, can I do it? I know that one of the pipes is different. Can I modify it to fit? At worst, I could buy the single pipe, but that cuts into the bargain of the whole thing. Anyway, any thoughts? I'm pretty keen to get triples on this puppy.... Thanks. |

If you don't get a response here you could try calling Factory Pipe direct
|
||||
|
Call Factory pipe, maybe they would be agreeable to swapping the pipe for the XLL equivalent, or maybe they'll tell you if and what you can do to make it work.
|

All I can say is that I don't see any real different between the GPR or XLT engine compartments, Same engine,pipe, carbs, airbox, electric box, water box.

Triples on an XLT sounds fun

Hey JetEd:
Turn that GPR into a Stage II and you will feel the difference between the 2 compartments. I just removed and installed the carb.s and pipes on both the XLL and GPR in less than a months time and there are some appreciable differences. The XLL is a cavern compared to the GPR. The rubber coupler between the exhaust and water box may be the same length but the one on the GPR sure seemed a he]] of a lot shorter. |

Hey max4 i have a set of xlt tripple pipes with 3hrs on them;the difference is the back pipe,the collector, and the pto stinger,if you want to trade for the different parts for your xlt let me know Thinks.

Max4, i race against a XLT 01 boat with triple pipes, novis 48, v-force reeds etc.. this guy has the complete Riva yamaha catalog inside this hull no **** the grudge race was in "combat zone" early in the morning with complete flat waters (almost no boat traffic) we perform 3 1/4 mile drag races, from a dead stop i kick his butt i put more than five to six boats lengh "but" at the middle of the race he was all over me (side by side at the 1/8 mile mark) at the finish line he was like 4 to 5 boats in front of me...lol after the race we drink a couple of beers and he (let the cat out of the bag) and told me that his boat was reaching a honest 72 mph in radar (i beleive him because before the race i gps my boat and was running mid to high 69 a "hair" from the 70 mph mark so he was not talking B/S he was talking the truth "but" this boat holeshot was very poor so poor that he have to come from behind in all the races even when he race against the others 3 seaters boats XLL and XLT with stage II packages and stinger pipes installed. Boton line if you don't care to much about your bottom end and want to build a 3 seater monster with a killer 72 mph plus top end then go with the triples but remember don't expect to much from the hole unless you use a high comp. head with small domes like 35 to 38cc and straight high octane race gas hasta luego, Ray

Hey Ray:
That 01 XLT has to be the definition of a "sleeper" |
||||

Yikes, and I thought mine was fast

Thanks for the replies guys. My XLL is a pretty fast non-piped boat, but I think the pipes would just make an awesome difference.
We have one here (I'm in Australia) that has just about everything possible done to it...pipes, pump etc etc...It radars at 74!!! Of course it only does that for a little while before it goes BOOM!!! However, I've seen it set up to race at a top speed of 68-69mph and it was awesome...even on the bottom end! Anyway, I was thinking, could it just be a case of the GPR pipes fitting the XLL but the XLL pipes not being able to fit the GPR (due to smaller bay size)? The whole thing is driving me nuts because I AM KEEN!!!! Anyway keep thinking and let me know your thoughts. Canlakegpr....I'm not quite sure what you meant about the pipes. Are you selling your XLT pipes? Or are you looking to swap a single XLT pipe for a GPR pipe (considering piping up a GPR?). Either way I'd be interested and prepared to pay frieght. I haven't bought the pipes yet, but they are on hold for me. Cheers Guys |

send an e-mail to factory pipe.

MAX4 I have a tripple pipe gpr , i also have a set of xl pipes, the gpr pipes well fit your xl but the collecter and pto stinger is also different, I was just trying to say that i have all the parts that i would trade you to fit your xl if you bought the gpr pipes . If you do the tripples you well love it.

Max I think that it would an AWESOME project except for the MSD total loss. I would probably stick to an advent and go total loss when a RAD makes the flywheel available.
It seems to me that the installation of the MSD total loss is very involved. Fercho |

Gotchya now Canlakegpr....I emailed factory pipe and they replied with exactly that, the gpr pipes will fit my xll but the collector and stinger are different.
I'd certainly go for an exchange of the gpr parts for the xll bits and would be happy to pay for freight. Fercho, as for the MSD total loss, the reason why I'm going for it is: 1. It comes with the pipes at a fairly modest price 2. We have been having HUGE problems with many of the aftermarket ignitions over here in Oz, especially advent and microtouch. We are averaging a 50-100% failure rate on some of the performance ignition products...must be something in the air...(sigh). I have no particular desire to run total loss, I'm just trying to keep the boat reliable. Anyway, I'll keep you posted...it should be an interesting project. |

Oh, I forgot to mention, Factory Pipe also said that they no longer kept any XLL pipes or parts. Sounds rather odd to me.
Further to, is there some sort of correlation between the flywheel and the MSD total loss? The set up comes with a lightened flywheel and I was wondering about it after Fercho mentioned something about total loss and the flywheel. |

Max I would get an Advent straight from Advent and give it a try. We had great luck on this end and so have some of the European ski's in Canada. You probably got a bad batch. What problems have you seen?
When you said that you had problems with Advent and Microtouch are you refering the the GPR Advent or for other ski's???? I head that from som Kawi guys about the Advent. The GPR Advent is another story. It took over 1 1/2 years to get release so personally I feel it is a solid product. Fercho |

Fercho, I got the bad rap about the CDIs from Australian Jet Ski parts (AJSP). However, there just aren't enough piped skis here to say that they are truly tested. I'd rather go the advent if you guys have had reasonable success with it.
I'll be picking up the GPR pipes next week. I wouldn't mind getting the blueprints for both the GPR and XLL triple pipes so I can see exactly what parts I need to replace. Any idea where I could find these? Canlakegpr, other than the PTO stinger and collector, are there any other parts that need replacing? Are you still prepared to trade parts? Thanks. |
||||
|
Canlakegpr, before I finalise the purchase of the pipes, are you interested in selling your complete set of XLL pipes at all?
Just thought I'd ask. |
