I can only speak from personal experience, but the GP1300R hull is sheet molded compound. from what i've read, it is supposed to be thinner, lighter, and stronger. however, after putting 9 hours on mine, it cracked. i am taking it to the dealer today and yamaha is paying to have a local marine fiberglass business repair the hull.

Oh that's too bad, do you ride in chop? how did it crack? IMO after 9 hours is just insane. I haven't heard of 1200 hulls being an issue for crack.

Yamaha has been using SMC for years. I've repaired some crate damage on a 1300R and it looked like the same old SMC. Unless they went thinner in '03, it's probably the same as previous years.
