i was thinking about sending my stock CDI to protec to get the rev limiter set up to 8k. Can i do this and still have the reliability as i have now? i mean i kno more RPM=more wear on the motor, but my question is is do i have to do anything else to make it as reliable as possible. I kno it wont reach 8k in the water, and i totally let off of the throttle in the air so i wont have a problem with that.

Is this a good mod along with the other mods i have listed below, is there a more effective mod i can do in that price range?

hole-shot, its all about the hole-shot for me [Wink]

You WILL see a slight gain in performance. The same % the rev limiter is raised, the timing curve s also raised, GIVING that extra performance---we HAVE done back to back testing with a stock and pro-tec modded box and there MOST DEFINATELY IS a slight increase. Not as much as an aftermarket CDI-- but there is some.
What i must say is be careful when crusing in the midrange with that box because of the increased timing in that area.

CDI for $300 is a good deal and much better alternative than the Protec mod, the Protec mod was a good idea 2 yrs ago when CDIs were not available

The ProTec moded OEM CDI still a great choice. We use them on some of the local ski's and they are very reliable. As a matter of fact I will be running one on my 1300 converted 1200R

I have had a protesc modded cdi for a year its a very good unit, I would pickup a power valve controller with it. 1 goes with the other IMO
