Hey, I was thinking about putting a stage 1 kit on my stock RXT. Went down to some guys I know who work at a dealership and they said some of their customers had been coming back p/o'd because the ski was running slower than before. What is the deal with this? Don't want to pay $700 for a slower ride.

Welcome to the forums! It sounds like you didn't get the whole story. Trust me when I tell you we aren't in the business of hurting performance.

The increased power the kit provides tends to uncover a problem the craft was having or heading towards prior to the installation. It occurs over time so it isn't that noticeable. The Power Filter Kit significantly improves air flow which increases intake velocity. After installing it the problem becomes noticeable.

Most of the time it's as simple as their being too much oil in the engine. If the oil level is above the half-way mark on the dip stick oil will tend to enter the air intake system through the engine vent hose. The oil coats everything it passes as well as getting into the combustion chamber. With a 4-stroke that's a bad thing!

Another problem we've found is the supercharger clutch washers are worn out causing the clutch to slip prematurely. A simple test of the clutch slip point prior to installing the kit will tell you if your washers are worn out. If they are you should replace them with our Heavy-duty Supercharger Clutch Washers.

Thanks, I talked to one of the guys at the merchandise shop, he swore by all the Riva kits so I'm going to go ahead and get them to put the Stage 1 kit on, minus the wedge (for now, I realize it will lower top end results). Do you have any experience riding short track with the wedge? It looked like a good "straight line" speed hook-up for the RXT but, as the RXT has no trim tabs I would have thought the wedge would make turning worse. After all, the best way to make a quick turn is with the nose down.

Great! Be sure to tell them to check the oil level and slip point of the SC clutch before doing the work.

The wedge makes a significant difference in top speed on the RXT as it does not have VTS. Knowing that I'd go with it and make adjustments to my riding style. EG - Moving back and forth on the craft as needed to shift weight helping to drop the nose before a turn. The little gain you'll get in turning without the wedge won't make up for the loss in top speed. Which you need with the RXT!

You can base your set up on the conditions and quickly and easily install or remove the wedge as needed.
