I screwed up, and now I'm not sure as to the extent of damage that I've done. I managed to suck up of few rocks the other day. I can see some marks on the impeller, but it does not appear to be too terribly mauled up. Took it out the day afterwards, and now it seems to have an issue getting off the line. The power is there, and the engine runs great, the best way for me to describe it is that its like a car leaving the line and not hooking up for a few seconds. After it gets going, it seems fine and gets up to speed alright. I would appreciate any info from some of you more experienced riders as to what I most likely will have to replace or fix. Thank you for your time. 05 rxt 215

That happened to me the other day on my rxt-x and I had to replace the wear ring and impeller. It sounds like your wear ring is screwed up. Mine was cavitating off the start also.

This happens to all of us eventually. I did it, once, while testing one of our race boats back in the day. Roll Eyes

Fortunately it's not to big of a deal to fix. And, with our help you can make your pump more efficient and durable. Closely inspect the wear ring and impeller for any damage. If the wear ring is not completely smooth all the way around you'll experience what you've described. The imperfections cause severe cavitation. Because of this you need to replace it. The stock wear ring is made from a plastic material. We've designed a Stainless Steel Replacement Wear Ring. It resists debris damage and is precision machined so it's a little tighter than the stock wear ring. This improves acceleration. You can easily install it in place of the stock wear ring using the supplied detailed installation instructions. You may preview the instructions by clicking here. You will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader to view them.

The impeller needs to be inspected closely as well. If any of the blades are knicked up or bent out of pitch you will have problems with all areas of performance (acceleration through top speed). You can have it repaired, but I would suggest you consider upgrading it to a Solas Concord Impeller. Their superior design and construction significantly improves all around performance. We offer several to match your crafts level of modification. Use the chart on the impeller page to pick the one that's right for your set up. If you have any questions post them and we'll do our best to help out!

gba & Riva Crew,

Thank you very much for your information, it is greatly appreciated. Sounds as though it may be justifiable to through a stage 1 kit at it and also upgrade the wear ring? My only concern or question then would be , what if any are the downsides to the steel wear ring? Is it more likely to damage the impeller rather than the wear ring if something like this were to occur again and the steel ring was installed? Just curious.
Thanks again. Bret

It's less likely, in my opinion, because the stainless steel wear ring is harder than the plastic so the debris shouldn't dig into it. It should pass through the pump a little easier. But, anything is possible. A big enough piece of debris could get stuck between the impeller and stator veins which could damage either or both. That is what happened when I sucked up a rock while testing in Havasu. Fortunately for me it only bent one blade on the impeller. The blade the rock was stuck behind when it couldn't go through the stator. Roll Eyes I removed the impeller, repitched it, reinstalled it and she ran fine! Wink
