I'm posting for a friend. He has an '05 RXP with about 20 hours and it will not go above 7600 rpm's. The dealer put a new SC clutch and still the same thing. They also did a leakdown test which came out fine. He broke it in right and had the dealer change oil at 10 hours. Any ideas? Thanks.

Is he using 91 or above octane? If not, that is his problem.

What is the elevation in his riding area?

What are the air temps currently?

Be sure the oil is not overfilled !! if it is overfilled even a lil bit it can cost you 200 rpms ive seen as much as 400 rpms with skis with way too much oil ...

What are his speeds like, Todd? Is his ski performing like Frank's and mine? He may have a weird prop goofing him up. In this weather we have been having lately, I would guess 8000-8050 on a stock ski.

By the way, you want to caravan to the Mudbugs? Smile

His rpm's were 8000. the air temp is between 65 and 80, elevation 400-550 and yes always super unleaded. I will check with him on the oil level. I gave him a GPS for two weeks and he wouldn't use it. He's only had the ski for 6-8 weeks. And it's only been on lake granbury,TX.

He says his oil level is between the marks, but what is the proper way to check oil level? And could a wear ring problem cause that kind of rpm loss, the loss of power is through the whole powerband. The dealer is moving slow so I thought I would ask the experts, THANKS.

I'm trying to help a friend, still. The 05 RSP has been in the shop 4 weeks now. they have replaced the SC, the ECU, done a compreession test(within a couple of psi,I'm trying to get the actual #'s), done a leak down test(within factory spec.), inspected pump, wear ring, impeller. Still 7700 rpm max. Tomorrow they are going to swap pumps with a new one.And all this time they are talking to Sea Doo. Any one have any suggestions. My 50 year old buddy is going crazy!

Yes, demand a new ski and let SD sort that one out.

He talked to SD and they said they don't give new skis. I think that is BS. Maybe seeing that you said that will give him some incentive to push the subject. Thanks.

The dealer took it to the water and did an on trailer full throttle fuel pressure test. they said it was 60 and spec was 61, they thought that fuel pressure was not the problem. What the heck else could it be, besides time for a new boat.

What did they find with the pump? Did they swap them out? I'm willing to bet the problem is in the pump.

Dang! whats going on with that ski?
I know some RXP's dont rev as high as others. Lots of different variables as to why.

What is his top speed on GPS? If it is about 68-69 there really is no issue!
Maybe the tach is off?

His girlfriends RXT beats it pretty good. And it ran 7950-8000 before. One day it just started this low rpm stuff. The dealer is talking to SD, and my friend is waiting on,maybe, the big call. New boat? I don't know. Thanks for the help.

Might sound funny, but i have an 04 rxp. I ride in southern California. I was at Lake perris here in Ca for the first say 5 trips out. Best RPM I could muster was 7650.....then i added the Riva Intake and hit 7750.....
A little pissed off i decided to go to the Mission bay. I know its at sea level. 1st run off the trailer in about 63 degree weather was running a consistant 8050-8150...(heat fade) but next 2 times out i went to the bay.. All on cold days and saw no less than 8050 rpms. Then i go on a warm day a week ago and only see 7900-7950...i just hit the same Lake Perris today and was hittin a max of 7800rpm at the lake. If i were you I'd try another riding spot. You have nothing to lose.

I just bought the Rotax racing Ecu for "STOCK CLASS" Per Glen at PPG it's completely amazing. Should add a few hundred rpm and unreal acceleration. I bought the ecu and the PPG repitched solas prop.. Ill be giving it a try hopefully next weekend.

Todd, you would LOVE the PPG repitched solas prop, the increase in acceleration over the stock prop is UNVELIEVABLE!!!!, add the Vortech SC impeller to your current set-up and hold on tight!!!! Eek

Todd, get in touch (gpr01racer@hotmail.com) i want to share with some info.
