The same thing it will do for any supercharger equiped 4-TEC engine. Prolong the life of the supercharger's clutch! It doesn't matter what level of modification you're running. If you leave the clutch in place there's a good chance it will need to be rebuilt sooner than necessary if you ride often and ride hard. This simple little modification will help prolong the life by allowing the back pressure to be relieved without relying on the clutch.

OK RC, We have NITRO and some other people saying no way to the blow off valve. I see their point and I see yours...IE not having the clutch take all the stress. So that being sed if you run the blow off do you realy need a CLUTCH. Why not Just run it direct?

I have owned over 30 PWC"s over the last 25 years,I have always sed that I would never own A SEA-DOO. I now own two(RXP's one yellow one green). So I guess you should never say never. We will see next summer(GOOD OR BAD IDEA).
i'm interested with this blow off valve, But as far as I know blow off valves had been used only in turbocharged cars and not on supercharged ones. the ones used for supercharge are i think pop off valves. with the turbo the excess air is released in the blow of valve is this the same principle with what riva has?
Not to further cloud this issue by bringing another area of question in but...
if you've been following Nitro's posts you will probably have also noticed that Nitro refers to Sea Doo SC as a Turbo of sorts...
That might clear up the issue a little (or cloud it more for all I know)...
I know on my Lightning (which is SC equipped) there is a boost bypass from the factory. As it approaches shift points or there is a sudden let off of throttle there is a bypass that vents the sc chamber back into the intake tube (same concept as a BOV in a way). It can't be heard with the stock air intake system but with an aftermarket system you can hear the hiss of the expelled air when you let off the gas...
Riva Crew.....some additional info on the Blow-off valve, please. Not to give away any "proprietary" info.....but how much above the boost pressure does the valve open....and then, how quickly does it close?
I'm trying to understand the relationship between releasing the pressure and clutch wear....could you expound on that some, since I'm not an expert on superchargers/turbochargers????
The principal funtion of the bov{blow off valve}is to eliminate compresor surge.excessive back pressure is created when the throttle is closed during gear changes or deceleration causing turbo or supercharger cavitation.this is detrimental to the life of your turbo or supercharger,however fitting a bov will substantially improve this problem.reducing wear and possibly a bearing or clutch failure in your turbo or supercharger.i hope this help.

Thanks Turbo Tech PR.....so that relieves the pressure from "that side"....now for the stresses that it sees (in the clutch) due to the inertia of the supercharger impeller when you get off the throttle.....
Anybody know if the superchargers for the GTX-SC and RXP are indentical EXCEPT for the drive gear???? I checked the parts diagrams, and that seems to be the only part with a different part number.....different number of teeth.
More money to spend.....I've got 3 people on the "other" site that are selling new superchargers....may get one of those, and get that CalJet clutch. I've already gone thru one supercharger on my GTX-SC (old clutch design), and with the type of riding I do (ocean/heavy chop), it takes a beating....is the CalJet website in operation?
I DID INSTALED A BLOW OFF VALVE {TURBO SMART SUPERSONIC} ON MY SKY A CUPLE DAYS AFTER I PURCHASE MY SKY {2/5/2004} AND I STILL HAVE THE STOCK SUPERCHARGER CLUTCH AND WE RIDE IN THE SAME WATER CONDITIONS,AN I NEVER HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH MY CLUTCH,SEENS THE BLOW OFF VALVE IMPROVE THE LIFE OF THE CLUTCH DRAMATICLY.BUT ONE THING THE BLOW OF VALVE. FOR A SUPERCHARGER APLICATION THE VALVE NEEDS TO BE AS LARGER AS POCIBLE IN ORDER TO RELIVE ALL THE AIR THAT THE SUPERCHARGER GENERATE BACK TO THE ATMOSFERE AND NOT LETING AIR GO BACK TO THE SUPERCHARGER TO AVOID COMPRESSOR SURGE.
