I just bought a 2005 RXP red and I had the opas removed and replaced with the blockoff before I took it home. I test drove one without it and it handled great. I'll be doing 70mph stock with the opas blocked is what the dealer said who is a friend of mine. So I would say yes it increases speed. Also those **** opas drop whenever the jet leaves the water and slows you down, its basicly a ****ing safty feature for newbies.
OPAS blockoffs will not improve your top speed in calm water. It will however improve your speed when running thru chop as the OPAS paddles arent grabbing and slowing you down.
If you want to see 73 mph you will need to add an external intercooler. You wont see those speeds with just a Stage 1 kit.
It is rare an RXP will run 70 miles per hour stock. Very few have been that lucky. I am not talking speedometer miles per hour either, that is innacurate. Im talking speeds recorded on a GPS. Most RXP's have been GPS'd at between 67-69 miles per hour in their stock condition.

u will see absolutley positeveley 100% NO speed gains from blocking off the opas on an RXP we have tested this many many times with gps and radar situations there is no speed gains at all on the rxp with blocking off the opas .. If you doubt this get urself a gps and gps UR ski with the opas on the gps with the opas off as green hul stated it helps in handling somewhat BEWARE of anyone that tells u that u will gain any mph on the RXP by simply blocking off the opas
Thank You for info. And green hulk all speeds I post are on gps 69.3 1 time a few at 69.0 and lot of high 68 mph passes. all stock weather permitting also riding position is verry important.

Well, you obviously don't know how they work. When the pump looses water pressure the opas drops down and slows you when you leave the water. So in the chop with the opas off it will go faster. I have seen the gps readings on the same craft. One week he ran the chop with opas, then he had it off the next week. There wasn't a big speed difference, but it was a difference and every bit counts. It don't matter if you win by 30 boats lenghts or 5 inches, wining is wining and if you ride chop it improves your ski speed.
dgmoore, Sorry, but the OPAS does NOT drop in the RXP models. The only models that the OPAS paddles drop (or move up and down) are the GTX, RXT models. The RXP OPAS paddles are in a fixed position and only move left and right with the steering.
Hope that helped!

Okay, sorry maybe the RXP opas he showed me was messed up, because he we right up to it and showed me it dropped down(pulled it down). I dont know, maybe they put the wrong one on the RXP. Wasn't mine, but one beside the one I bought.
With what you describe, your right... it was definately messed up! If he had to pull it DOWN they were not only the wrong ones, they were installed upside down, lol. The normal position for "retractable" OPAS paddles IS DOWN... He would of had to push them UP.
The guy who owns that ski is in for quite a suprise when he nails the throttle LOL!
I agree with dgmoore, in the chop you will go much more faster without OPAS !!! I can tell you its true !! or maybe you feel it faster cause the ski is solid like a rock without them and with Riva Intake Grate
