A couple of questions.
What does one kit offer that the other one doesn't? What are the differences ie; gains, reliability, price etc. Just wondering. I'd like to compare the 2. Thanks. '02 Supercharged Harley Davidson F-150 - 407/511 '05 Red RXP - Riva stage 1 |

The difference in price between the two kits is like day and night, the Rotax Racing kit is by far a lot more expensive than Rivas stage 1 kit, also with the R/R kit you have to give your boat vin # and give up your manufacturer warranty. The R/R stage 1 kit comes with a racing ECU, a few shims that goes inside the supercharger and a step by step instruccions on how to modified your stock waterbox. Our boat waterbox mod was moded by one of our local machine shops. My neighbour RXP also have the (optional) R/R high flow external intercooler and a custom home made air intake system using a big high flow (Greedy) F/A that originated was desingned for a Toyota Supra twin turbo aplication that he took from his force induction business a "turbo mart" blow-off valve and a aftermarket boost gage, for your knowledge this RXP'S comes with (7) psi boost pressure from the manufacturer. About the difference in performance between the two kits we haven't have the chance to compare our moded R/R boat with another RXP with the Riva stage 1 kit yet, but i am sure that we will this year takin in consideration the incredible low price that Riva offer this kit, about engine reliability we have close to 80 hours of hard use in our moded boat without a single issue. In my personal opinion, i would take Riva's stage 1 kit over the R/R stage 1 (ANYTIME) with Riva's kit you got a LOT more for a LOT less $$$$$

Thanks bro!! R/R just emailed me a product and price list for their stage 1 & 2 kits. You're right, the price difference is night and day. Don't really want to fork over that much dough and I definitely don't want to give up my warranty.
Thanks again '02 Supercharged Harley Davidson F-150 - 407/511 '05 Red RXP - Riva stage 1 |

the price is night and day maybe but so is the performance. my buddy has the rotax racing stage i kit and easily hits 75 mph and out accellerates a stock rxp easily. he did not have to surrender his VIN number when he bought the kit. i think the riva kit has a great bang for the buck but so does the rotax racing kit IMO. it would be cool to see the magazines have a shootout on all the aftermarket companies for the rxp. ppg vs riva vs rotax racing vs r&d vs ?

I don't know that you could really compare the two kits. The stage 1 kit from rotax, as I understand it, comes with a new ECU, (which advances the timing, increases the fuel air ratio and increases the rev limiter to 8500), intercooler, (which takes a .25" wc pressure drop instead of the stock one that has a .5" wc pressure drop and drops the air temperature 100 degres), thermostat, oiler jet to provide more oil to the engine, clutch shims for the supercharger and thinner head gasket. The kit does not include the air intake system, (they recommend a 4" hose and aftermarket k&n type air filter), pump wedge, intake grate or impeller. Stock the boat puts out 195 hp. The stage 1 is supposedly good for an additional 30 hp and speeds of around 75 mph, again with stock impeller and handling components, for a cost of around $2800. With the stage 2 kit you send the head in for porting, valves, titanium keepers, etc. which is good for another 15 hp and 78 mph at a cost of an additional $1000. The stage 3 kit gets you a new camshaft which is good for 10 more hp and speeds of close to 80 mph and costs an additional $1300.
As I understand it, the Riva stage 1 kit increases the hp by about 5 hp and some of the speed increases come from the wedge, impeller and intake grate, which is not even included in the Rotax kit. Granted, the Riva kit is less expensive but you can't really compare the two kits. You would spend aroung $5000 for the rotax stage 3 kit, but you'de have a 250 hp boat. Wow! |

quote: Thanks for all the info. I just can't justify an extra $2200 over the price of the riva kit to go an extra 2-3 mph, but I do see how much more you get. I think the Riva kit is hands down the best bang for the buck. So, i'll start with the Riva kit and go from there. Originally posted by GPRSTX-15F quote: Thanks again bro. What is Dave pitching the prop to? What better results is he getting compared to the "out of the box" prop that comes with the riva kit? Sorry guys I have to jump in here...Although I think it is a really great kit for the recreational rider, I would never even think of comparing the Riva kit against the Rotax kit..Riva as I have said offers an awsome kit for the recreational rider who wants a slight edge against his buddy with the stock rxp or gtx..There is a big differnce in price mainly because there is a HUGE difference in the performance gains of the two kits..too answer your question rather bluntly...If you want to have a boat that is slightly faster than the stock rxp..Get the Riva kit....If you have ever raced your rxp against a stock gtx...Well that is a very close comparison too the speed difference between a stock rxp vs a rotax racing stage 2 rxp... The performance gains in hp alone tell the tale..And sure the price is moderatly high but, I know everyone I have talked to who has purchased the Rotax kit has said that it was money VERY well spent...And if you cant afford it then the riva kit is just as good for the $$ (but not near as fast)...If you want a boat that is as close to a REAL race boat as you can get...Rotax kit is for you..And as for the serial# hey negotiation is the key..here is a link to some pics of my gtx that has the stage 2 kit..

I don't know that our Stage I Kit can be compared to RR's Stage I Kit. They have the same name, but that's where the similarities end! Our Stage I Kits are designed to be affordable performance modifications with minimal work and maximum benefit for the dollar.
If what Mark S posted is true our Stage II Kit is more comparible to RR's Stage I Kit when it comes to performance gains and price, but we use a different combination of modifications. Included in which are pump & handling components. We believe that with the additional speed you should do what you can to improve handling so you can use the added speed optimally.
