Hello,

Wondering if anyone can help me to understand why my 05 RXT has terrible gas mileage and hesitates. The ski runs great wide open but for some reason it hesitates taking off and seems to continue for about 5-8 sec...usually opens up about 40-45 MPH. I had a piston break and the dealer replaced it along with new valve springs. That's been over a year and honestly, it took them soooo long to get me running and not taking on water that I don't dare to take it back. Seemed like every problem they would fix another would come up. Not sure if this has anything to do with current problem, just mentioning the history. I ride it hard, don't get me wrong. Throttle is more of an off/on switch than anything else Red Face) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. By the way, plugs are new and they looked great!! Thanks in advance.

As far as the hesitation goes, make sure you’re not running old gas in the tank, if so put in some fresh high-octane (93) gas and see if that helps.

I would be willing to bet your supercharger clutch is slipping, it sounds like it’s taking longer to spool up then it should. The more you let it slip the more likely you are to have washer failure (makes for a bad day). If you ride hard it will shorten the life span of the clutch washers!!!!!

If your still running the OEM ceramic washers your riding a ticking time bomb Eek, hopefully its not too late………If the washers haven’t came apart you will need to upgrade the shaft/ clutch assembly to the 08 spec. along with the 08 spec. washers. All this can be purchased through Riva (mechanical difficulty 0-10 = 7 Scratch Head), you will also need a few specialty tools that can be purchased through Riva as well. A good torque wrench will also be needed for setting the slip point.

Thanks for the reply...

After having the SC rebuilt 3 times...all under warranty luckily, somehow I knew it would come back to that. I'm not convinced that my major "piston" repair was not in some way related to this known issue with the SC washer breaking up. I am out of warranty now and will be happy to put my skills to the test to save that kind of cash!!! As stated before, I ride this thing hard and that's not only why I paid for the fastest (then anyway) but also got the most extended warranty I could...LOL I told the dealer when I bought it I will be back for SC as I had read that was the weakest link on this monster. The sales person and the shop rep still even after the 2nd SC replacement maintained they "never see them in for this problem"... RIGHT!!! Must be everyone else in the world with this ski except their customers. Anyway, I have a good torque wrench and all the male/female torx tolls for the job I think, have collected those doing minor stuff to the ski. I'm sure there will still be some newbie tools for the chest. Now I will hit the forums and break out the AmEx.

Thanks again for taking the time to give your input.

BTW - I always run only 93 and it's always fresh as I don't come in until I am out of gas...LOL

We run up and down the river where I am...

Like being on a road cruiser...LOVE it!!!

I also got brave and cut holes in the side of the ski, installed 2 waterproof kicker 6 1/2" speakers with foam basket inserts, 200 watt marine MTX amp and I run it off my iPhone. Good for GPS too. This things ROCKS!!! Even interrupts the stereo when I get a phone call...LOL Gotta have the tunez. Always wanted to install a second battery with a 10" sub in a fiberglass enclosure off the back but ya gotta draw the line somewhere ;o) It was a bit scary cutting into the hull, especially with the gas tank right there!!! Level of difficulty 1-10 (5). Fear Factor (11). LOL

Man I would like to hear that thing (sound system). MTX makes good stuff, add that sub with a secondary battery, a battery isolator (breaks secondary battery from the starting battery when engine is not running), a good stiffening capacitor (5-10 fared), a couple of small tweets mounted somewhere on the handlebars and wham!!!!!

Sounds like you really got screwed by the dealer with your previous SC rebuilds. Most dealers are not very well equipped for dealing with a catastrophic supercharger failure. Properly repaired it takes a highly skilled mechanic, not the guys hired directly from behind the counters of your local auto parts stores and deemed as MASTER SEADOO MECHANIC by your dealer.

I recently entered our local Seadoo dealership in our area looking for items to winterize my skis, they had no clue as to the proper types of oils needed for the supercharged 4-tecs (simply amazing)……..

Good luck with your ski!!!!
