C4DEL ..I ALSO have been lucky w/ mine (gpr)but lots of others have had issues ...mainly power valves dropping into cylinders due to a poor design and other problems too ie..cat conv, carbs, etc.....
Believe in my country I never saw a yamaha suffering from these fialures, my 2000 GPR never got problems (knock on wood) after 200 hours of hard riding never an issue, even my freinds ZERO problems.
The only problems i know is cause lack of care to these boats
its just my opinion

I've had pretty good luck with my gp800 other then a broken power valve cable, 2 power valve motors, 2 broken glove box lids, and a burned piston which was my fault
i agree with malta i dont know why but i have never seen a pv faliure in three years or any of the other dealers i know. the only issue i have seen is that the resonator that the free flow kit replaces sometimes comes loose causing loss of speed bout 10mph but you tighten it back up an away u go

COULDN'T AGREE moore w/ you ...............my ski zero problems 90+ hrs.My roomate has had a list of problems .We have both 02 gprs in the garage next to each other..mine still looks showroom clean......, his on the other hand looks dinged up , scrathed, lets say attention to "detail" is not in his vocab...............dirty black exhaust near pump area ..ect......so your right take care of your ski and it will take care of you
im not saying i have never had a prob with my ski just not a stock pv or crank related problem but i havnt even heard of these probs here in Spain only from this board, seems strange i know there are very minor difs between U.S. boats and euro boats that i cant see making any dif to this, maybe its the climate??? who knows

I took my ski to Barnies in St Pete. They pulled the plugs and saw signs of metal on one of the spark plug tips. The service writer says it indicates bearing failure. He said they have to file a claim with Yamaha to get permission to tear it down and fix it. He said the whole process take about 3 weeks.
I too had great luck with my 00' GP12r. The only problem I ever had was from the the abuse I gave it (3 sinkings) and a broken seat after a girl with "big underware" sat on it. It's in a boat shop getting a LR, corner-crack fixed and the top half repainted, so I can resell it. Maybe I should sell the 13r and keep the 1200.
Does anyone have personal experiance getting a new replacement ski under warrentee from Yamaha after having mayor failure earily on?
Mine is a european model, I agree with SammyGPR, you take care of it and it takes care of you !!!!
I always clean and take care of engine and grease the moving units and flush engine after every ride, also Spray Seadoo lube in plugs and in the filter so it cleans engine from water if there is.
Take care of it and it Takes care of you

Down for 3 weeks! That sucks! I doubt if this indicates anything specific about the 1300s (at least I hope not!) If something is going to go, a lot of times it happens early on.
At this point I think your biggest worry is the monkeys at Barneys reassembling that engine correctly. Good luck!
In Texas, the "lemon law" statute applies to any motorized vehicle. So, waverunners are included. If you're within the first year of ownership, I'd suggest a little research on your state's laws. You may have a lemon law issue!

You can forget about the lemon law. It has to be a problem that was fixed 3 times but not rectified. That would mean that you would have to get your ski back 2 more times and the engine would have to do the exact same thing 2 more times. They won't even look at your case unless this is true.
Don't say lemon law and say Magnusson Moss Warranty Act and it will apply. Like posted, you do have to have a recurring problem and it won't apply for a 1st time problem. This is federal so it applies to every state.
